We are travelling to Chester on the M6 and not being familiar with this motorway can anyone tell me of a service station that it is caravan friendly please.
Hi Dave, thanks for the link. I have just looked at it but what I'm hoping to find out is how ukcs members think, from experience, which are good ones for parking up caravans to have our sandwiches etc. We have pulled into motorway services in the past and found that the space for caravan parking is minimal and we don't want to upset HGV drivers by pinching their spaces
Stafford is a good one, you need to walk across the HGV car park to get to the services but there is a car park just for caravans, it is one we aim to stop at.
One word of advice is don't stop at Lymm services, they are not very good and no spaces for caravans. Chester services on the m56 are good and well sign posted for caravans and plenty of space.
Why not come off at Stoke south exit and follow signs to Bridgemere Garden Centre. They have loads of parking and a very good garden centre with a reasonable cafe. the A51 runs parallel to the M6 and you can then head along the A51 to Chester. Just a suggestion.
Agree Stafford services are the best. Dedicated caravan parking but a bit of a walk to the main services, or you can nip through the hedge and go to the petrol station which has some facilities as long as you don't want a sit down meal. If you are going to Chester then best to come off the M6 at Jtn 16 and head on the A500 then A51 through Nantwich, Tarporley. Will save you 15 miles and 15 minutes.
colinlob, nice idea but it is dangerous for me to go to a garden centre - the caravan would be filled with shrubs!
Fiona and Alan, will take your advice and stop at Stafford as it sounds very nice. We have our own sandwiches and toilet so we are not really helping the ecomony of the motorway services, just need somewhere to stop comfortably. Lake sounds nice.
Fiona, thanks for the tip re junction 16. We are heading to Netherwood touring site which is on Whitchurch Road, 3 miles from Chester. Would the A500 be the best to take for there?
Hi Carol, Yes, I would be taking the A500 from Jtn 16 M6, then take the A51 from Nantwich to Chester. When you approach Chester, pick up the A41 towards Whitchurch and Netherwood is about a mile from the Big roundabout along Whitchurch rd. You will go past a pub called the Cheshire Cat (lhs), not far from there on the left. 45mins from Jtn 16 M6.
Thanks Fiona. We travel tomorrow so hope the M6 will not be too busy (can but hope!) Hope too that this lovely weather continues next week for us to see Chester in all its glory.

Saturday's don't tend to be so bad on the M6 if there aren't any accidents - today will be dreadful! Lovely weather here tomorrow and Sunday so fingers crossed for the coming week too! The candle factory and Ice cream farm are within very easy reach of Netherwood and are nice places to visit (if you haven't been this way before) have a lovely time xx
