Such fine weather made me decide to clean my caravan roof.
Stepladders into van,up with the Heki, head and shoulders out.....thats when I found out the gas struts were knackered when it fell on my head !!.
Popped along to my local (A Major Bailey dealer)caravan dealers to enquire re replacements.
Gobsmacked to be told Baileys can not supply the gas struts, the only strut listed is one for the lift up bed,and that the complete Heki frame unit would need replacing!?
What nonsense, and a complete rip off by Bailey and Dealer
A quick Google found a pdf parts diagram for the Heki mark 2,and several supply sources for the gas struts....However price per strut varies from around £22 to £44,plus postage from £1.75 to £4.50 per strut.(They are tiny 340mm).Then there is the VAT...and you need TWO of them.
Has anyone found an alernative strut that would adapt,to avoid these silly prices...but thats the Leisure Industry for you.
There is of course plan B....a wooden prop/stick !!
Have a word with these guys in Derby, they make and could possibly refurbish your old gas struts. I have used them for various jobs in my line of work and they have been very helpful and usually cheaper too.
I used the firm Dave recommends above in his link when the gas struts on the pop top roof of my caravan stopped working. Not only did the ones supplied fit better, but they had found some which matched mine (I posted one to them) - quite amazing as it's a Dutch-made Kip caravan! LOL. They are very helpful, so see if you can find the part numbers and give them a bell. If the struts just need regassing and it can be done, they do that too.
Dave and Jax365,Thank you both very much, that link looks very promising, will contact them monday.
Found a New York(USA)supplier who can supply an identical type of strut (for the yank version of a Heki) PAIR for the equivalent of £15,but postage to GB is £35 !!
I'm sure there will be no need to get them shipped from the States. As Jax said they can usually repair and regas your old ones if they don't have them on the shelf, and a lot cheaper too!
