I know that it's an extravangance but does anyone take away 2 TV's? Our new van has 2 points and it would save us moving it about. The OH always has to check the text B4 he goes to sleep and the minute he wakes up, just in case he's missed something during the night. 3 years ago when we had a trailer tent, he wouldn't hear of us taking the TV away and now he's suggesting we take 2

Ha this is what we are proposing to do this year. We upgraded our 15" flat screen dvd/freeview tv to an Avtex at Xmas so we are thinking about putting the old one in the rear dinette for the kids to watch when they want. We don't actually watch that much tv but when they do Im sick of all their dvds cluttering up the front end of the caravan and the squabbling over cbeebies or a dvd so thought this might solve the problem and help keep all their bits and pieces at the back in their 'room'. We are going to try it out at Easter and see if it works.
Fair point alan29. I know that there are definately 2 camps when it comes to TV's in the caravan. Fiona, we looked at the Avtex TV but in my infinite wisdom I decided to buy a cheap TV/DVD combi LCD from Curry's and it's an awful picture in the caravan. Seemed OK at home but it's one of those screens that you have to look at eye level to see anything resembling a good picture. False economy!!
Confession time...... We have 2 tv's....... an LCD with sky dish for caravan, and old CRT on a freeview box in the awning, which doubles up for using with ..........the xbox for my son in the evenings...., am i forgiven or should i leave carravanning forever and never post again :-/
We take one but I would take 2 if we had a spare one to take.
Purely because I'm idle & it's a faff to move it if we wanna watch it in bed plus for some reason every time we switch it off it loses its memory and has to be re-tuned.
We had one in the lounge area of our caravan and another one in the bedroom area. When we were on a seasonal site we had an old analogue 32" TV in the awning. good luck to any one who tried to uplift it!

Thats what our spare tv is like, if you aren't directly in front of it then it was just black shadows, but its the sound which was particularly bad OH hated it. The Avtex is very very good excellent picture and decent sound. Pricey though so I can understand people getting cheaper options, our friends and family clubbed together and got it us for Xmas!

We were on one site (admittedly private) but a couple with a TV in the awning nearly got sent off the site. Do the clubs allow TV's in awnings? In the C.C. handbook "The Caravan Code", Rule 3i states "respects the privacy and peace of others at all times by keeping to a minimum mechanical, instrumental and vocal noise". Based on an awning not being very good at damping sound, it suggests that it wouldn't take much to cross the line.
Regarding 2 TV's., the additional weight and clutter springs to mind.
We take one, would consider two if I had a van that would take them, but not so sure it would be a worth while expenditure. The one we take is quite well used, half an hour in the morning, news weather etc, maybe an hour whilst we get ourselves together if its too wet out for the kids to get outside straight away, a couple of hours in the evening if we dont go out.
The wife uses the music chanels to listen to whilst she has a clean around in the morning whilst I walk the dog and kids. So allthough I'm attracted to the idea, I can't see that we would use it enough, though like the idea.
Guess it's good if you have a permintent double bed and like to watch the box in bed, and want one close to the seats, though our bed is down the front with the convertable seats, so the box can remain in the same place.
We do not have any. Just a little 8"dvd player. That way we can see anyhting we want to or choose whatever of the films we have.
But that is for rainy weather. My cushions on my wheelchair get soaked and I cannot stand being shut up in one of those all over covers.
But as for a TV in the awning, The Cc&C site ask if you snore loudly in a tent please consider your neighbours. How th eheck your suposed to do that bets me. My OH snores like Concorde but if we shut the windows of the van it will be worse and everyone will hear him. its through lack of air he snores so loudly, hence all windows in the bedroom open winter & summer and were in a bungalow. But he is so loud otherwise. I wear earplugs that road workers used to wear now.
So a TV in the awning if someone complains they may ask first to do something about the noise at night echoing through the night air
Hi Chrissie, I remember the days when were under canvas and we used to hear snoring from all directions...but nothing was as annoying as the zips. Every time someone went to the loo, the zips would go up and down and then you'd know they'd be back a few minutes later and then they'd go up and down again. And that was just in our tent!
