We bought our van last August. In the middle of the information overload from the dealers when we bought it I am sure that the chappie said that we would hear from CRIS re change of ownership??
Am I right in thinking that we get something from them a bit like the car registration documents or did I dream it?
Oh dear - 8 months later and we havent heard anything. (but thats par for the course for us at the moment - nothing is simple!) A phone call me thinks!
Is the £12 fee an annual fee or just to register you for the time you have the van?
Yes you are right but you should but you should have heard from hpi (who operate on behalf of CRiS) before now. The details they send to you by post are for you to send a cheque to them for £12 to register your caravan which is a one off payment. They will then forward your new CRiS document but mine took about a month after the cheque had cleared. You could contact the dealer about it first or contact hpi and ask them. Here is a link with contact numbers.
You can also pay by card over the phone now, give CRIS a ring -the dealer might have sent off the paper work. If they have it will be on the CRIS system. I paid over the phone and it only took 2 days for the CRIS document to arrive.
The dealer should have given you Part 1 of the Registration Document along with the van, and should also have completed and sent off Part 2 to HPI to inform them of change of ownership.

The 2nd van I bought the dealer didnt send it off for me, so I had to ring CRIS myself and they chased the dealer for me and got the details off him.
So CRIS will write for free and then send the documents out to you.
Hi, Same with me,only the dealer said that van was CRiS registered, and that i would need to contact them, pay the fee (£10 then),and the van would be registered in my name, looks like most dealers try to save a few quid,Oh well!!!,will know better next time.thanks for the info.

I had the same problem, I rung CRIS and they said they had heard nothing off the dealer and after three phone calls they still hadn't done it so I ended up writing a letter of complaint threatening to report them to trading standards as there were a couple of other issues they had not address and suddenly everything was sorted. But we also received a letter from CRIS and then had to pay the fee to receive the certificate. Good luck
Hi, Have no problem with the CRiS Fee, the problem is with the dealers, who say it is CRiS registered, and they will sort that out for you, and inform them of new ownership, But fail to tell you at the point of sale, that you will have to pay the fee, Then you only find this out when the documentation comes through the door, and if first time buyer from dealer, like i was, and did not know about the CRiS registration scheme, makes you think, (thats a bit underhanded),if they do that for small amount of money, what else are the failing to tell you,( Inspires a lot of trust in them!!) I have found, that if you cant trust them in the small, seemingly insicnificant things, they are even less likely to be trusted in the bigger issues.

Avondale Dart 556/6. the owner says it is CRIS registered, however when I called CRIS and paid up this a.m, they told me it was an Avondale Eagle S, and wasn't registered to the people we sae, who say they've owned it for 3 years. The van was in a secure storage site, and the site owner came down later and spoke to the 'owners'. The chap knows a friend of mine thru' work, and my gut feeling is they are genuine.
Is it poss that the previous owners to last nite have just not bothered changeing the CRIS reg? We were not given/shown any documentation, however the van was well cared for, and the owner knew about all the extra 'add cons' like sockets, shelves etc, that only somene who had done the work would know wasn't part of an original van.
Do I go for it - CRIS says there's no outstanding issues re theft, finance etc?
