this is embarrassing, but we have got an awning which has a skirt and one square thing in the same material which I've deduced is a wheel arch cover - or I think so anyway
Can't see how it would fit, & also can't see what it's for, as surely the skirt ill cover the wheel anyway ? The only thing I can think of is that it's for covering the wheel if you don't want to use the skirt... is this right ? If it is how does it fit ?
The main skirt fits all the way across the bottom to keep out the draught and the square part fits above it over the wheel arch again to keep out the draught. Different people have different ways of fixing the square part and I have yet to find a way of doing mine. There are 2 studs on my square piece at the top so the idea is to drill the side of the caravan in the corresponding places then use self tapping screws to fix the opposite part of the stud to. Some in the past have suggested using rubber suckers but I think that you woul;d have to make holes in the square part to hang it on. I'm sure there will be plenty of ideas to answer your question but at least you know what the two parts are for.
Yes the skirt will go along the bottom of the van but as said, will leave the wheel arch bare. There should be a piece of track on the top of the skirt to slide in the square, this covers the wheel.
This track should be able to slide along the top so that the square can fit in the right place.
Hope this helps and hasn't confused lol.
We use sucker hooks, bought at any diy shop or pound shop
we wouldn't want to drill our van, our square cover has eyelets in it to put on the hooks.
We use sucker hooks and 'Clingons' attached to the wheel arch over. Wouldn't be drilling into my 'van either. The thing that attached the wheel arch to to the skirt is called a figure of 8, i think. When we first had our 'van i coulnd;t understand how it worked until we bought one and used it!
Can't remember where we bought it from though, sorry! I've searched on Google but they only seem to come with the wheel arch cover.
We have been touring for 5 years now, with three different caravans & 3 awnings. It was only half way through last year we realised how to attach the wheel arch cover.
It really does make a difference if it is breezy!!!
I've asked many "stupid" questions on this site, which is why it is so great, I use insulating tape to hold the wheel arch cover up and doesn't leave any sticky stuff on van.
The easiest way to put a permanent attachment to the side of the van without drilling is to use double sided carpet sticky tape and velcro.
Sew one piece of velcro (the smooth side) onto the wheel arch cover (the square bit) and then stick the hook side onto the van above the wheel arch.
Then if you attach this before you put on the other length of skirt, the long skirt will hold the bottom of the square in place.
On our last van, I used this method to attach our awning to the van with 50mm wide velcro. It was still in situ 3 years later when we sold the van. Double sided carpet tape is good stuff for this sort of job.
with one of these If you call into a shop for one its called a "figure of eight". deaft skirt threads through bottom half of the "eight" and the wheel arch cover through the top half.

LobeyDosser, that sounds like a great idea actually as I am reluctant to drilling holes in the side of my van as well. La-la said it was an embarrasing question but actually this was a good thread as I also now know what to do. You have also helped me La-la without even providing an answer so your thread was more valid than what you think. And remember, you never stop learning no matter how old you are.

we didn't realise the skirt went into a little rail along the bottom of the van until we had used it for 2 years!!! we used to keep it off and woinder how it was attached; assuming a row of velcro was needed.
