Got a letter this morning informing us that Vantage have gone out of business.

We store our caravan there and were asked to phone immediately to arrange removing it from the yard; despite paying nearly £250 just after Xmas for the year.

The bank has shut the firm down and all people with vans in storage have lost their money AND storage! After some feverish phoning around we managed on the sixth attempt to find somewhere and went to get our van from Vantage; where the gates were shut and the closed notices up.

We were lucky, as we were off work and at home when the letter arrived, but the storage yard is emptier than usual due to the Easter getaway so there will be people who return there only to find locked gates and a closed notice; God only knows what we'd have done if the place was shut after we had returned from a long haul holiday and found we had a van on the back with nowhere to park it.

Anyway it is now in the hands of the liquidator to discover of we get any of our money back for the remaining 8 months of storage, and another £300 to park it somewhere else; but we are glad we found somewhere before the rush of people looking over the next week or so.

Our thoughts also go out to the staff at Vantage who have always been helpful to us since we took up caravanning; It's a sign of the times I guess.

That's discusting in the fact they didn't notify people earlier who pay the rent fees to the storage company. The owners must have known the financial situation weeks before and it would have been a matter of courtesy just to let the caravanners know when the deadline was in order for them to make alternative arrangements to store their vans before hand. It's such a shame for those already out in their vans and what a complete shock it will be to them when they return. Let's hope that all of them can find another location and at least get their money back that they are owed.

suspicious that this has happened over the Easter break, when lots of vans are away!

I don't think liqudation works like that and it can often be quite sudden.  The chances are that the owners were trying to find ways to hang on or hoping for miricles rather than accepting defeat early on.

How we would like things to work and how they actually function in the real world are two different things I am afraid. When a company has financial problems you do not shout it from the roof tops giving out warnings. You try to get matters resolved without all of your business contacts pulling the rug from under you. Then, it usually comes down to one minute you are trading and the next business has closed and the liquidator is appointed. As quickly as that.

If you are owed money don't just sit back and wait to hear...put a claim in. The liquidator will only deal with claims put before him.

It's not suspicious at all! They can not help when the banks chose to do it!
