We got into caravanning about 18 months ago having previously been campers. We still have all our old kit and I have promised my hubby that we will have at least one trip away in the tent this year, as he really likes camping under canvas. I myself would probably not bother as I like all having my own facilities.

Does anyones else still go away in their tents?

Helen

Hello Helen. We haven't for about 18 months but we would have done if a few things had been different. Both of us love the tent but we do really love our caravan too.

We don't actually have a shower in the 'van and often use the site loos as well but generally find it's quicker & easier & quicker to `camp' with the 'van, but we miss using the tent & fully intend to do it again. If we had a dryer less unpredictable climate here in Scotland we'd probably use the tent far more than the caravan.

After owning my van for 18 months I have just bought another tent! I'm still a tenter at heart! Its for sunny weekends - last minute chucking the tent in the back of my dds car (I don't drive but am learning!) and me and my 2 dds can zoom off if my partner is working (he's a fisherman)

I wouldn't feel right without a tent!

I don't anymore since buying the caravan. I had a small 1 man tent that I used when hiking with the scouts. When I packed Scouts in and bought a caravan then I used it to store beer and stuff until it was destroyed by the wind one new year.

I wouldn't feel right without a tent!

I know exactly what you mean, think I'll probably never be ready to be `tentless'. I'd feel I was giving up the last vestige of youth . Oh god I feel depressed just thinking of being a tentless old lady waaah  ! No no never....

We have had our caravan about 3 years and still have all my camping stuff ie tent, etc. Our van is on a seasonal pitch so yes we still use our tent for week long hols and keep the van for bank holidays and weekends.

We kept our huge dome tent for the 1st season we had the van ut didn't use it once so we sold it & haven't missed it.  We've just bought a decent 3 man tent for DS (20) tho & I'm itching to try it out!

Don't use tents anymore, but still have a couple of small tents somewhere, in case any of the kids ask.  I'm afraid we are now 'hardened' caravanners!!

I still use my 3 person tent. It 'lives' in the car with a box of camping essentials so that if I go out for the day I can always stop over if I decide to stay out for longer. A handy pub with decent beer does tend to influence my decisions even if I only have a pint or two.

I camped for years in tents and then decided to get a caravan. I gave the tent away but kept most of the gear for the caravan. Unfortunately I couldn't get on with caravanning (mainly hated towing) so I sold that complete with all the gear on board ready to go, having decided to give up camping altogether. Then I was persuaded by some friends to go camping again and had to buy the entire kit again. So I would advise any ex tenting caravanner to hang onto at least one tent and some gear...you never know how the future may develop.

We have kept our large family dome tent as we couldn't part with it! our sons (20 &21) use it now to have there own adventures in, mainly camping out at custom car and bike shows and the like with all their friends, (I'm quite jelous really)
