Can anyone help? i have just bought this van there is a pump switch with an indicator light this would light up even if the Whale watermaster was not attached. I did start to run the water through then after a few mins everything died, now the indicator light will not come on, i have looked for blown fuses but cant find any, could it be the relay?

Please any help

the light will come on without the pump in place, sounds like a fuse has gone if no light is showing.usually happens when the pump has not been used for some time they stick and blow a fuse.

Hi, thats what i thought, anyway i called a pal, he is an electronic security and alarm fitter, he came to have a look and we both scratched our heads as there was no fuses blown, just to cut a long story the tap in the kitchen did not make the pump work nor did the one in the bathroom then we tried the shower and that worked, the pump ran and the water flowed. The kitchen whale taps micro switch did not work and the bathroom basin tap had corroded terminals. so that was one to remember, only now are micro swithes available for whale taps.

We have the ABI Brooklyn 400/2.  Have you checked the fuses under the bunk? There's a long row of them much like car fuses. Sorry if you have checked them, but I was wondering if you'd only checked the fuse at the unit.  We were at a loss looking for fuses because there's so many of them in 3 different places!!

Another thing that our caravan service chap told us was that sometimes a switch sticks on older vans so to switch things off and on several times.

We had major problems at the start of the season, we'd only ever used things on mains and we are going on a few rallies on non leccy sites this year.  So we put it on an electric pitch at our storage site to test everything.  First the fridge wouldn't work on gas. That turned out to be the igniter that had stopped working.

The other thing was of our own doing though.  The gas water heater wouldn't light on gas.  We tried lots of times, with no luck.  Followed the handbook instructions without any success.  Then on the last attempt, it lit but with one hell of a bang.  My DH said nonchalantly that it was the excess gas being burned off... The water heater was apparently lit, but after half an hour the water was still cold. We turned off the gas and used the electric to heat the water, but again, the water heater lights were on but the water wasn't getting hot.  On inspection outside it sure was the gas blowing up.....so fierce was the explosion it had blown the cover off the water heater. The water in the water barrel was also making a weird noise - turned out that it was the water in the hot water heater flowing backwards, so we had to remove the pump.

At this point I decided it was prudent to fetch our chap in before DH did some real damage.  I was only when I read out what the model numbers were of the fridge and the water heater, did we realise that the water heater was a different make to the one in the handbook.  On a separate instruction sheet in the paperwork with the van was the proper instructions for the water heater installed in our van....and in large letters it said REMOVE OUTSIDE COVER BEFORE LIGHTING GAS !!!  So it pays to check if you're reading the correct instructions in future!

After Nigel put a new igniter in the fridge and replaced the non-return valve that had blown, both the heater and fridge work perfectly.  It was an expensive lesson.  Apart from the cost of the fridge bits and the water heater repairs, the cover that we didn't remove cost us the best part of £17 to replace!

Hi, Jenny thanks for the tips, as you can see from my previous postings all is working ok now. My van was in fantastic condition for the year, i just have a few things that need to be sorted, i need to get an igniter for the cooker and find some instructons how to dismantal it, i have been looking at a couple of Brooklyns on ebay they seem to hold a high price. I will join the ABI owners club and hopfully go to some of their meets.

Thanks
