Have searched the web but cannot find anywhere that sells a microwave that is for a caravan.  Does anyone know who supplies them? also do the ones that are supplied already fitted in the caravans have a lower wattage or a 12v option like TVs, kettles etc.

We bought one a few weeks ago from Asda. It was part of the asda basic range and only cost £32. It's 700 watts and is fine for caravan use. Just watch what else you have on prior to using it such as heating etc, otherwise it might cut the power out.

The Wavebox is a 12v/240v portable microwave.

Approx £230 from Amazon and others.

Reviews on web.

Cheaper to buy a mains one for £20 or so.

Why not go the whole hog and get one with convection oven and grill as well. Should be ok so long as you don't have any high wattage items in use at the same time and with the price of gas it would probably pay for itself in a couple years. I bought one for home a while back and it was only £99, and while it is a bit on the heavy side it is not out of the question to use it for camping or caravanning.

Thanks for the thread on microwaves and others re using domestic ones.  The problem as I see it is that the domestic ones are very heavy and I am wary of the wattage when using on european camp sites.  Was surprised at the previous thread post by Birder that fitted ones are the same as domestic.  I did ask at the caravan showroom about buying one off the shelf but they did not sell any.

This one on the ebay thread link from Weekend Leisure (sorry about the copied font) might be okay but is it just the same as any other?  All the ones listed say suitable for a caravan at 240V.   Also has anyone had dealings with this company?  I've never bought off e-bay, scared of being done!

Caravan Camper Tent Low Wattage Microwave - White 17Ltr

Ideal for any camp or caravan site this low wattage microwave will cook great food and not keep tripping the electric pole.

Also availble in silver please see our other listings or ebay shop.

Specification:

  • Power 230V AC 50Hz 700 Watt
  • Physical Size 262mm x 452mm x 335mm
  • Capacity 17 Litres
  • Glass Turntable
  • Net Weight 10.5 Kgs
  • Manual Function Button
  • Manual Timer Button

Cheers

I use a domestic one with a grill. Much easier to clean than the gas grill and of course cheaper to run. I would check the campsite wattage before using it or turn everything else off if nessesary. 1000 watts = 4.35 amps. Most sites are at least 8 amp? Dont use oven and grill at the same time.

Fred
