Our last caravan had the joints around the toilet sealed up with sealant. I noticed last night that with the cassette door open on our new(er) caravan I could see daylight around the end of the toilet. Closer inspection revealed that there was no sealant around the toilet anywhere and is no signs of there ever having any. Should the toilet be sealed in or had it been done by a cowboy on the old caravan?

No idea what's right or wrong, but our caravan loo is exactly the same .
Daylight showing around the edge near the outside wall when bottom tank is removed. we did however have sealant around it , between the edge of the toilet unit and the outside wall ,which has since come away .. no signs of any leaking or damp in it though. Ours is a 1995 van which we bought last year .

In theory it shouldn't allow water in, but as the shower is also nearby it could allow shower water into places it's not welcome was my thinking. You normally have these things sealed up around the house.

Best idea if your not sure is to seal it and you would have piece of mind..

I was thinking of sealing it but was concerned that there might be a good reason for it being open.

I also noticed this on our 1994 Elddis Gulfstream, got hubby to run a strip of sealant along the edge.

will look at our caravan on drive. just looked at ours and the toilet is sealed at the base but not the back of it.i did observe that the shower curtain is forward of the toilet so it may not get wet anyway if you shower.so it depends on where the water falls.we always use site showers.

Must be normal then. Just seemed different to what I am used to. The old one was a bit of a dog so the dealer was probably holding the thing together.
