I'm with surfer on this one,I don't fancy drinking water that's been hanging around in an Aquaroll or the internal pipework especially during the summer!
I get it straight from the tap and use it as needed for drinking.
We sterilise the system, and its got a carbon filter fitted,the water is as clean and pure as any. Have any of you bottled water fans heard of anyone dieing or even getting seriously ill from drinking from a caravan tap?
My van's been stood for 2 years, it's 21 years old & I've only just bought it. I'm currently sat in it on it's maiden voyage (yes, I know it's december, but I love camping).
I would love to use the shower, but I have some issues with the washroom taps.
As for drinking the water from the van taps, I don't see the problem.
OK, my van has stood for 2 years, but I've given the aquaroll a good rinse through & flushed plenty of water through the pipes during my recent tinkering with the van.
I went to a local caravan spares/camping shop today to get some gas & toilet fluids (yes, I use that as well, for "everything"), I looked into a new filter for my crystal system (the Mk. 1) but they were the best part of a tenner, I said to the woman behind the counter "I really can't afford a new filter right now. Besides, I've been drinking it all weekend & I'm still here!"
I drink mainly plain water, I always have an old volvic or vittel bottle to hand, refilled time & again with tap water. I've even been known to dring from one which has been standing (or rolling about in the car) for some time, in an emergency. It tastes no different to me & has never done me any harm.
I know caravan water systems never get completely drained down, but provided you flush them through a bit, it's perfectly safe to drink.
We're with Rabbin on the water front. We clean our pipes barrel, pump everytime before we go away, then there arn't any worries. We've never had any problems to date with drinking in this way.
I think you can be too carefull with these things.
As for showers I/We generally try to use the site facilites, saves on working drying out the shower room etc. I think it's a habit we got into with our old van because the shower was pretty poor. We've not tried with the latest van yet, but the water pressure on this van/pump is way better than the old one, so I suspect the shower will be better.
As we're planning on hitting more farm sites this year, I suspect it might get tried out soon though.

On more than one occasion, a runny tummy and for me that could have serious consequences so I prefer not to take the chance. Plus the taste of it when used in tea is not pleasant.
obviously if there are health issues you gan canny however, the immune system is designed to cope but not with sillyness careful sterilisation procedures do the trick for the vast majority the taste is probably the tablets you add to the barrel metabisulphide has an after taste so be careful if tablets are not being used then the system has not been cleaned properly in themselves, the various elements of the water system do not have a taste in t'old days they didn't drink water they drank ale maybe that's what we should do!
Definately use our shower. So refreshing first thing to hop out of bed and get drenched.
Always drain water out after standing empty for a few days, re-fill 120 litre tank and add sterilising tablets. Doesn't taste much different to tap water.
