I wish you well, but I doubt you'll make much money at it.  I used to be in the towing business until quite recently.  The insurances you need will eat into your profits, plus the tachograph and its associated expenses.  Also, the driver CPC is coming in about now.  Strictly speaking, that is for LGV and PCV, but you would need to check if you would get caught up in that because of the tachograph.

Just as a tip, watch your pricing very carefully, the costs mount up quite surprisingly.

Sounds a good idea for a bit of pin money if you don't mind renting out your caravan or just buy a cheapie off ebay. It might get knocked about on site but at least the hirers won't wreck it towing it there.

Caravan can be towed to the site with a Mondeo, you don't need a truck/operators licence or Cpc means....Certificate of professional competence, soon to be required for HGV drivers.

If you're going to provide a service towing all kinds of caravans, you certainly can't do it with a Mondeo. I don't think you need an operator's licence, but you do need a tachograph and, as I said, some very expensive insurance.

I think the OP means towing other people's caravans....

Hi, If you are going to let out your van(to anyone thinking of becoming a caravaner, if that is the idea), you may have to get the sites on board, and find out their position on the idea, as their rules and regulations may not allow it, and you could find it a big problem if your van is damaged, you could have wrong type insurance, and they will refuse to pay out, in theory it maybe a good idea, practical may be different, I think you should do some market recearch before fully commiting your self, as Greendemon has said the cost of the insurances and the equipment needed may very well out weigh the return.

Although OP has not been clear I read it as he supplying the caravan in which case he would be able to provide only Mondeo (or similar) caravans. No twin axles etc.

It seems a reasonable idea to me as a 2nd income but leads me to think - why not pitch it one place and let the punters come to the caravan- which leads me to think it is a static!

No, you definitely need public liability and a tachograph, as a bare minimum.

I suggest that you check with the DVLA. I have been in regular contact with them over the years I have been in business, and I wouldn't have spent all that money if I hadn't needed to.  Also, having a tachograph fitted means it always has to be used, whatever the purpose of the journey.

I never used my personal vehicle for this reason, so I suggest another vehicle, just for the business.

I wish you well, but I think you will be surprised by what you need.  I wouldn't listen to a caravan dealer.

If you own say 3 touring vans and you have a Mondeo, you can tow them where the hell you like, as long as you have insurance and a driving licence. Why do you need any other things like tacs etc. there a no restrictions on hours of driving, only common sence

No, he's towing other people's vans. If you're going to tow anything heay with a 4 x 4, then yes, you do need a tachograph, and drivers' hours will apply. Check with the DVLA .Once you're doing it commercially, a lot changes. I've been talking with the DVLA for years about this.
