So sorry to hear about your lads dust caps though I am not sure what the are.

Clumber is a beautiful park, and great for all sorts of activities. Unfortunately parts of it are close to one of Worksops seadier estates and you do have to take precautions.  We also have been questioned by security to check our credentials, so it does happen.

Its not exactly 'cast in stone' that it was a CClub member who commited this crime, it could have been someone with enough knowledge of how these security systems work to make their own swipe key or clone one.

In the Building trade the swipe cards to new jobs are often handed out freely to those working on site for them to gain access, but often because those workers move around within a large firm, and onto other sites, they are not collected in by the site owners at the completion of the Job, especially where a building is unoccupied.

Luckily we are honest people, but at one point when my OH was working before he retired, he had a 'master' pass swipe card to an entire hotel chains bedrooms for a couple of months, as he was traveling around and replacing the door fire smoke seals as part of his job.  Yes he was trusted, having worked for the same firm for many decades, and been through some of the most stringent security checks possible due to working on Nuclear plants, but it would have been so easy to have kept a copy for himself, and i suspect that the same could have applied for the people who have had access to the CC site where the crime took place.

It's a shame when something like this happens  &especially somewhere you'd normally expect your things to be safe - but really I can't see why anyone would be so certain it was done by someone on the site. 

Barriers with keys are only a deterrent, they're not foolproof & won't stop anyone who really wants to get in & nick or vandalise your stuff.  By that logic people wouldn't need to worry about having their homes burgled as long as they locked their doors !

id expect it to be another youngster staying on site who took the dust caps . there was a spate of it round us a few years ago when chrome "dusties" were popular . kids would always steal them unless they were nipped up tight with  a spanner. a kid will have spotted them on the bike and thought "im having those if nobodys about"

I deal with this kind of stuff at work, generally cards numbers on the strips are encrypted, I've never heard of a system that isn't  You can download code breakers etc off the net but would anyone go to this level to nick some dust caps etc.  Almost certainly not.  You would also need an encoder, primed for the encryption, generally around £600, and often you need to be in ownership of a system run by the vendor to purchace an encoder.  Pretty sure if someone went in with a card to steal, it would have been an original.

I know it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth when you get somethin nicked, but quite often it's those around you who did it.

To date, I've only had two thefts, one spare wheel left under the van while at Devon Cliffs.  And the second recently at Easter from Blue Anchor, I had a tool box full of beach fishing bits and pieces taken.  luckilly I had removed about 30 weights and three reels, two Pens and a fast retrieval in order to lighten the load for the walk to the water.  But none the less I was spitting feathers.  There were a few fishermen in the park, so the thief was probably a fisherman and a camper, so double suprise.

You have to feel sorry for the sad sad idiots who get off an pinching other peoples kit, I mean, really, they should get a life.  Pathetic cockroaches.

Blimey, they still have problems at Clumber Park?  This has now been a problem for at least 10 years as far as I can remember.

I went about 10yrs ago and was immediately put off by the signs telling you to close your caravan and awning curtains because of the high rate of thefts.

Apparently travellers are known to come through the woods and take bikes etc and leave back through the woods.

I spoke to the then warden and he said it was a real problem that they were having. That must be 10yrs ago now. I'm surprised it's still happening.

It's a real shame. One of the things about caravanning for us has always been how safe sites are. That includes thefts etc..

Hi all, we have been there 6 times(before the lock up for bikes etc) with our bikes. No problems, you just need be careful & keep everything locked up. Its a wonderful site, the park is great for walking & for bikes. Do not let the thieves put you off.

We also strongly advised to use the bike shed for security, as no-one told us about the thieves at Clumber park.

We had brought our four bikes with us to clumber park caravan site, by the time we had got settled onto our pitch, the bike shed was closed and locked.  We never thought it was a problem, due to signs saying CCTV on site (which later we found was untrue).  The next morning, one of our bikes had been stolen, even though we padlocked the four bikes together, the thieves just cut through the lock.  Two more families lost bikes on that night.

This campsite has still got a major problem with thieves (mainly bikes) and it is a regularly occurrence. My complaint is no-one told us and the wardens never stressed the importance to lock the bikes away in the shed (I spoke to two).   Also, the opening and closing times of the bike shed are to suit the wardens and not the visitors (7.30pm locking of the shed and 9am opening of the shed).  If we got to the shed in time, it would not have fit our bikes in as it only stores fifty bikes, personally I think this unacceptable when the site has 180 pitches.
