I am using the blue bottle gas in the van and have just been given, yes given, a full red bottle of gas with a regulator.
Question is firstly, can I use the red bottle with the regulator? It's a larger bottle than the blue one but that's not really a problem, I can get round that.
The simple answer is yes the two gases are interchangeable.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Yes, no problem, but you may as well use the butane while the weather's warm and save the propane for late autumn/winter.
When you say it's larger, does that mean it's too big for your gas locker? If so, the C&CC, and probably other site operators, will ask you to secure it for safety reasons (see here).
You will probably need a new regulator , neck fittings are not all the same but the pressure is . You can even mix Propane and Butane is you have the inclination . One gas (red)being more combustible will burn off quicker , that`s all that happens . My preference is to use red all year . Cost difference is negligible and the better burning at low temperatures takes care of the fickle English climate . We have just had a break in sunny Dorset and the below 8c nights crippled our butane efficiency .

You might not necessarily need a regulator as you may have a standard 'universal' type installed in the gas locker; but you will need a different hose fitting for the propane bottle.
Similar to Alan, I now just use propane (red bottle) as standard.
The idea of a universal fitting regulator is , security of the regulator on a permanent bulkhead mount point . This is to be connected to your gas bottle by a armoured (expensive) flexi`. If you have this sort of fitting in mind , then consider a two bottle regulator with a flexi` for your butane on one side and propane on the other . This is if you wish to use two gasses and the latest fittings .
If you do not have the bulkhead mounted regulator , then a regulator per bottle at around £6.00 each is the cheapest way to go . You just have to swap them on the rubber pipe when the seasons or weather change .Just Propane is so much less of a pain...........
I think "Patio Gas" (not to be confused with Calor Barbeque Gas) is actually propane, so the ambient temperature shouldn't be a problem.
I'd suspect the flame failure device - a thermocouple like this has either failed, or just been misaligned from its proper position, and is cutting off the gas supply as it's detecting insufficient heat from the flame. I would first try cleaning the head and gently bending its mounting bracket so as to position it in the hottest part of the flame.
If it's affecting more than one ring, though, it could be an entirely different problem!
