Hi We are new to touring so need lots of help

Just been away for a couple of days and the tap in the kitchen sink was leaking and on closer inspection I could see it has cracks all down the tap. I just wondered how do we know which replacement tap to buy as our caravan is a 1997 compass illusion and as it is old I just dont know where to look for a replacement. I have seen whale replacement taps but dont know if it would fit. Any ideas please ?

Hi NANNYANNY, Welcome to the forum, Be prepaired for a shock as tap are not that cheap, On the top of this site there is a button, features/tips, that will give you a lot of information on caravaning,= loading van, setting up on site, before you start your trip, list of essential equipment, and a host of other info, and any questions you have, the members on here will be only too happy to help if they can. one bit of info, i'll say now is, if new tow towing be aware of the law when towing regards to speed and weight of car and van, Motor way speed 60mph Max, can't use out side lane on motor way unless other lanes are blocked, 60 mph Max on duel carrigeways, 50mph Max on all other two way roads, even if road speed is above 50mph.caravan tyres should be minimum 6ply,and should be changed after 5 years no matter how good tread looks, you must have towing mirrors if van is wider than car, and you must have brakeaway cable fitted from van to car,and a audible signal unit in car (should have when tow bar fitted),this is heard when you indicate,(some cars have the visual aid on dash).Allow more time for pulling out and when braking, and allow a little extra room when turning round street corners,  Hope this has not scared you from caravaning.

If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.

I just had to replace my tap in my van as that to had cracks all the way up it - I got a brand new one off ebay for £15 with free P+P - and it took 2 mins to replace.

If I bought the tap from caravan shop I was looking at £30 and the ebay was an original not a copy or cheapo.

Had tap prob with mine.coachman>look on e.bay. some mixer taps are microswitched and some work on pressure drop.when the tap is opened for use.when you remove your tap it should either have 2 wires on it or none.
Our tap looked same as whale. turned out to be reich tap.
And a tip for winter stowing strip the tap and leave parts in a dish in the sink.open every tap and take shower head down and unscrew. £250 it cost in taps and pipes never again...
