Hi there.
This is my first post in the caravan section so please be gentle with me.
We have always camped in tents but for many different reasons we are looking at getting a caravan.
I have set my heart on an old Alpine Sprite.
I have been searching around for a few weeks now and have arranged to view a van. It is an old girl and at £495 I don't expect it to be marvellous. However, we do need it to be structurally solid - we would be able to smarten up the inside.
I wondered if any of you could share your knowledge and tell me what I need to be looking for and the questions I should be asking.
Many thanks
Adrienne
Check for damp and the condition of the floor as some older vans can get a soft floor (delamination) It would also be a good idea to have the van serviced by a professional. We are new to caravaning ourselfs so cant offer much advice but i am sure some one will bob along with lots more advice for you.. Also check everything works as it should ie 12v lights/fridge/EHU ect.
There's nothing that cannot be repaired, even damp and floor delamination. Not sure of the age you are looking at, but it's possible that it's not on a modern chassis, in which case, it may not be galvanized, so a rusty chassis is a major issue. If it's an AlKo chassis, you should have no corrosion issues as these are all galvanized.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
