I've been reading various guides for sites in France and some state that "a long 240v cable might be required". My cable is 25metres long, from everyones experience would this be long enough for use on the continent???
Generally yes, but I have been on sites where a longer one is needed, i.e. up to 50m but joining them is not tobe recommended really. Lots of French use a domestic style extension lead on a roller drum, but they are not too H&S concious!
It is long enough in most cases, but we have come accross occasions where we have had to borrow one. It has been my experience that where sites have these long cable runs, that they have spare cables that they will let you have for a returnable deposit. If weight is not a problem you could always carry a spare!

------------- there are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.
If your joining two cables together use a stuff called shrink wrap, might get it from fishing shops as its used on the rod butt of sea rods for better grip. Also if you see an electricty van and their repairing cables they will have it just ask the guys for a piece. What you do is slip it on one side to be joined then join the two cables, apply heat from a paint stripper gun and it will shrink around the cables and it will keep out water.Might evan get it from a electrical buiding supplier.
