Hey folks,
one of 'lifetime goals' is to write a book. Now I know this is a cliche but there we go, what can I say! i read far too many crime fiction and thrillers to even contemplate writing something in that genre but I now have the ghost of an idea....
From the beginning of our caravaning lives ( about 5 years ago) I kept a journal of each trip. Its in a little dog eared book that lives in the van and gets updated now and then. I found it last week and it was really nice to read it all again. Some pretty funny things happened to us and our caravan and Im thinking of turning the journal into some kind of book or blog maybe. Something non fiction and aimed at the caravan / travelling market. Also Im turning 40 next year and a good friend of mine is writing his blog, 40 islands in a year to celebrate his b'day. Im thinking 40 nights in a 'van for mine to take in different campsites etc.just a couple of ideas im thinking about...
My question to my fellow caravaner is...would you be interested in something like this?
Thanks!!

I would read a book like this but I think I would prefer a chapter in a weekly/monthly magazine or something - little & often.

Hmm not sure where to start.  I used to read Womans Weekly & Peoples Friend & they used to have a weekly article from some writers.  I recently had a letter published in the monthly magazine produced by our C&CC DA - if you belong to a club & they do something similar maybe they would be interested.

When I saw it on the shelves I'd think oh no- not another travelog and look for something more interesting.

Thats not to say I wouldn't enjoy it if I bought it if you really made it "live" but would I buy it in the first place? No. I'd rather go of and enjoy my own funny adventures. And I'd take some books I considered more interesting on face value.

Would I read it if someone gave me a copy - probably?   Would I buy it and then read it - no?

Hmm, i wonder if it would target a more female audience? I only ask because I know for sure my hubby would never read half the books I have and never reads the same magazine columns as me either...all food for thought...

I would write it as a blog to start off with. Blogspot.com, which I use for mine, is free and easy to set up, you can personalise your layout and background etc to suit yourself and add all sorts of features as you go along. You can also add a page counter which shows how many times your pages have been read, and it even tells you the different countries where people are reading it from. That'll give you a good indication of how interesting/popular it is.

Good luck with it if you do start writing something, I'd certainly like to read it whichever form it comes in.

We also have a Book we have had since starting to Caravan and always record what we think about the sites we stay on for future reference and to see if there are any changes when we visit again, keep meaning to type it all out and put on a mem stick to make it easier and save carting books around.

I've got loads more to write on mine yet, Whitby being the next place I went to. I was hoping to do loads while I've been away this last ten days but my mobile broadband connection is so slow it's worse than watching paint dry, and as for posting photos, well it's near enough impossible so I'll have to wait till I get home to write the next bit.
