Just received a consignment of LED bulbs for our new (to us anyway) caravan to replace all the power hungry halogens as we spend a lot of time without EHU.
Just fitted them this evening and I am really pleased with the items we received from eBay and thought I would recommend
Shop4Un's eBay shop to anyone else in the market for LED bulbs. The only negative is that this one type doesn't seem to give much light at all in comparison to the others, so I have ordered some more of these to go in the ceiling lights as they give a lot more light and don't seem to get as warm.
I have posted this because there have been a couple of threads recently from people enquiring about going without EHU. Obviously, these LED's use a lot less power than a 10 watt halogen bulb and with the exception of the one mentioned above give off as much light.
I bought some LED's from another supplier in Hong Kong, luckily they were so cheap I could afford to experiment.I tried the ones that you rejected with the same outcome. The problem seems to be that the LED's produce light only in one direction and don't seem to work well with light fittings fitted with reflectors. I'm happy with the ones I've fitted to the 'van and I'll keep trying.
Incidentally, I got mine from a seller called "techogroup" and although he is supposed to be based in HK the packages appeared to come from Germany in about 5 days.
I did the same, this time I bought HK for price, and to see if they were usable, when they die, Ill spend a bit more on some (hopefully) more reliable units.
Agreed with the directionality of the SMD Led units, my van has spot/reading lamps in the corners, so got some that have 4 SMDs pointing out (like a spot) the awning got some similar to those linked to, and TBH, they dont do too bad in there.
Ive had to retrofit the main lamps, the age of my van it has 12V fluorescents, Ive ripped the guts out, just keeping the switch and used some LED strips inside, a 60cm white strip, and a yellow 30cm stip, sounds strange, but the diffuser works really well at mixing them, you get as good a spread as the original florries, the yellow strip just warms the colour temp up a bit so its less harsh.
Ive also added a blue LED strip next to the door at floor level, can leave it on later on when the kids are asleep and we can sneak into the fridge!!
