Hi Fat belly , although you are correct Amps x Volts , the error is the volts of the panel are 17.5 there abouts and not 12 volts , if you were putting 12 volts into a battery that when fully charged reads 12.7 volts you would not be charging it at all . You need the higher voltage coming from the panel to push the volts/current into the battery .
