I have been looking at an awning and fancy getting a dorema "president" awning which is 350cm wide with either a solid front or a canopy, either way its 350cm wide. Is that too big for caravan sites generally? Would i be better off getting a narrower awning?

If I was in the position of having to decide, I would stick to a 250cm or 300cm at the absolute maximum.  After saying that you need to consider how you use the awning.  If you regularly visit a site, or keep your van on a site permanently, then if you are aware of the amount of space you have, then it might be worth considering.  It wouldn't do for us as we more frequently visit sites where we don't always know what it's going to be like until we arrive.  If you book with the knowledge of having to put up a 350cm awning, it may restrict where you go.  Then there is the problem of putting it up.  I've never put up a 350cm awning, but I wouldn't mind betting it is more complex than a 250cm.

Generally, if we stay at a site for less than a week we would only put up a porch awning.  Longer than a week then we'd put up a full 250cm awning.

It could depend on the length of your van too.  If you have a fairly short two birth van, then a 350cm might not to be too bad, if you can actually get them for a very small van - this will still leave you room on the pitch.

If you the sort that needs room to sit out, or BBQ, then you could be restrictinbg room with a 350 awning..

These are just my initial thought.  No doubt others will have a different view.

Best wishes,

-------------

Hi,

Not sure if this will help but we got a new van last month and as a result had to change awning. We have always had Doremas and love them. Last one we had was a Senator Lux 250m depth. This time we decided to go for the Supreme 270xl. This is great, not too deep for piches but noticably deeper than the last one. The extra 20cm all along the front makes a big difference, it feels very spacious. We certainly wouldn't need one any deeper!

Happy new awning anyway, whatever you decide!
