There are clips sewn into the awning, the storm straps just push into the clips. To be honest, they are of limited use as if the wind is blowing towards the awning, it tends to pop inside out so the storm straps just move closer to the ground towards the bottom of the caravan. They probably offer some protection in side winds though. I've had ours up in some pretty strong winds, but as I say, it did pop inside out on us once and I had to climb out of the caravan window to sort it out as it was blocking the caravan door. It was pretty windy though, it blew the flag pole down on the rally we were on.
