We have the new Lunar Delta TI with the transverse Island bed, fantastic layout for 2, or 4 if all go to bed at the same time, will not work with children who go to bed first as there is nowhere else to sit.
We had a fixed bed on one side in our last van, hated climbing over each in the night, this van has an island bed and is the new max width van, it got a huge bed with no corners cut off and has loads of room each side of the bed, a fixed bed is a big improvement on making beds each night but an island bed is even better
I'd love a caravan with an island bed. The climbing over thing bugs me stupid. Prefer to take a single each rather than that - not very romantic I know, but er you can always share for as long as it takes... IYKWIM....
A weird thing with island beds at the moment is that it's almost impossible to get a twin-axle with a rear island bed, and yet it's more common on a single-axle, which imho defeats logic! And personally, I don't like the split shower and toilet layout so that means that I don't think there's currently a single British van with a rear bed and side toilet/shower room on a twin-axle.
Additionally, having had a side fixed bed and now with a rear island, it amazes me how many people put up with having to climb over if the 'inside' sleeper wants up/out during the night.
I hope that manufacturers conitnue to make island beds on a single axle but not trransverse island beds as this would be no good for hubby at 6'4"! And i wouldn't want any other layout now that we've got the island bed.
I saw a lovely Lunar at Campbells with an island bed that was transverse with a rear washroom. Was v nice but not nearly £20,000 nice. I have the side fixed bed now and never had a problem with the girlfriend climbing over. Is even less of a prbolem now we split up so I have the whole van to myself. Theres never a single argument now lol.
