I've just taken an awning in for sizing and after getting different information from all quarters, including the manufacture, the paperwork and various websites we measured to get the true measurement.  Measure around the awning rail, and down to the ground.

I agree with Tony, we've had 2 vans and found various measurements for them. We measured them to be sure and the measurements are surprisingly different.
