I wanted to know if anyone else drives those long journey's with bare feet. I love it, its comfortable and relaxing, or am I just a bit different. I drove 15 hours across france last Friday all with bare feet and didn't get a single ache..
I used to drive with bare feet all the time, particularly when I worked and wore heels. I always felt more comfortable as your feet kind of flex around the pedals but I remember people constantly telling me it was unsafe but I can't remember why now.
I have done it in the past, but not with our present car due to the type of foot pedals it has, the drilled racing type, they are just to bumpy and lumpy to be comfy bare footed, its a bit like pressing down onto small pebbles.

One of the Traffic Cop type programs on the other night, and it showed you them pulling over an Eastern Block HGV driver, he was driving in his socks, and before anyone asks yes he did have more than them on and the traffic cop said it was not an offence.

I drive in bare feet all the time in the summer, let the cool air from the air-con get round your toes.
As for being illegal or unsafe, don't think it's illegal and to be honest it's probably safer to drive bare footed than in some shoes. I've got a posh pair for best (funerals and weddings) that can slip off of the pedals WAY too easily....my bare feet never slip.
I've no idea whether footwear is a legal requirement but I always wear light mocasins when driving any of the cars, towing or not. As soon as we're on site, I'm barefoot most of the time & I love it.
My work requires me to wear steel toe cap boots & they're quite heavy so any chance I get it's all off, the feet anyway.
My driving instructor taught his pupils to drive in bare feet, but he had a car that had the long accelerator pedal so it was quite comfortable to rest your foot on. I didn't like it with the small pedal so have always worn shoes since.
I think the thing with flip flops is that they could slip off and they're bendy and could get caught. If I drive in sandals, I make sure my foot can't slip backwards out of them.
I've driven bare foot if I have had high heals on, got to be safer than driving with them on,But I'm not keen on the feeling, I had heard flip flops were illegal as they can slip of and also ugg boots, as they are cumbersome and don't allow you to feel the peddles. Like bungle from rainbow driving I would think

We wern't born wearing shoes so I see no problem although it does take a while to get used to it.
We weren't born driving a car either.
I always thought it was against the law to drive in bare feet, although I have done it myself when I had athletes foot with the aircon blowing cold air on my feet...
I was sure i had heard it somewhere but lost to where so done some reading up and There's no set legislation which says that you can't drive barefoot.
There is however legislation that you could fall foul of if your driving is affected by the fact that you are barefoot, i.e not in proper control of a motor vehicle and driving without due care and attention.
but as the mojortiy seems to be thinking on the same lines as me that during summer months we may be wearing flip flop type shoes so driving barefoot is actually safer,so i'll continue doing so
