today we looked in some caravans (not much option really, see here ....http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=3&TopicID=250666&PagePosition=1 !) anyway there was one caravan we really liked a lot.   It  really had a niced  spacious feel inside -  the layout was really well thought out - storage was very good, and it was twin axle & seemed very very solidly built.

So I'm confused as I thought I'd read on here a lot of gripes about the build quality of Bailey caravans - or am I mixing them up with something else ?

And another thing,  had a look on the www for the price (never bothered to look at the price at the show as a brand new van is out of the question for us) ..... surely this can't be right ..... http://www.baileypegasus-s2.com/models/bailey-pegasus-2-ancona/   I must say compared to a lot of other caravans (new & 2nd hand ) it seems to me really very good value for money -  is this really the right price for a new one of these ?

Do any of you have a Pegasus Ancona S2  ?  And what do all you  Bailey owners feel about the quality & value of Bailey  caravans ?

Don't do it!!!! Unless you want your OH running behind the caravan picking up the bits that are falling off!!!!!

Only joking, I had a Bailey it was very nice ,would I have another hmm I don't know, , but that dosnt mean they are bad, not at all as I said thought it was lovely, I just prefer swift and sterling for build quality, but If a Bailey came out that ticked all our boxes I would consider it :)

Do you ever hear of people praising something?  hardly

Do you ever hear of people complaining about something? YES

The 6 berth Ancona? errm the sixth bunk is in a crap place you would be better off with the olympus 546 but Bailey have stopped making it as it had a better layout.

We have the Gt60 same as the Olympus and NO problems that are major, every make of  van has its good and bad points.

This is our first caravan and i cannot complain about Baileys customer service either.

Elddis CS is a joke we have a motorhome from them.

You have e mail too

We have just bought a Bailey Bretagne Series 7 2010 model after out Hobby (05 we brought back from Germany got stolen!
As I type, this is our first night away in the new wagon. First impressions, very very nice!! A few minor technical difficulties to get our heads around but I guess you can't expect everything to be plain sailing.
If you have kids, this model is fab!!!! Sliding door to shut them off in the evening... Bliss..

La-la, what model was the caravan you saw - you said it was a twin axle but the link you gave to a Bailey Pegasus was a 2 berth with a single axle?

Hi Lassie - erm you're right it was .... I think I must've gotten mixed up !  That one I gave the link to is the one I was talking about, but as you say it's not a twin axle. (just edited that !)

We're not actually thinking of buying a new caravan - it's not something we'd ever do tbh.  One day though we might well consider one a lot newer than we presently have & I really did like that one

On reflection it's well too long for us to be towing about (just a personal preference for reasons of ease & fuel conservation)  & especially as nit's just single axle.  OH much prefers to tow twin axle even when it's a shorter van.

All the same - I am still rather lusting after it

The site you linked to is Lady Bailey which is a private dealer not an official Bailey site even though it looks like it.

I made that mistake till my dealer put me right.

I am not saying the prices are incorrect just that another dealer may have different prices.

Lady Bailey Caravan are named that because of it's location next to Lady Bailey Caravan Park (which is nothing to do with the caravan dealers).  They just happen to be dealers for Bailey Caravans (but are not owned by Bailey Caravans).  They are a large dealership, and as such are able to offer good discounts to customers.  The prices on the website are all genuine and reflect a real saving on the RRP.  We had our van from Lady Bailey and we have found them helpful and efficient.  Although they are 200 miles away from us, we take the van back to them for servicing and they work with us on a date.  There was a post on here of someone who had to leave their van with the dealers for a week for servicing.  We have ourservicing done on the way to holiday.  Early start from home, drop van off at 9am, have a day in Poole (or wherever) pick up van at 4pm and on to our first site.  Works well for us.  I would go to them again for a new van - and as has been pointed out, prices are good.

We have a Bailey and have nothing bad to say about it at all.
Our first van was an Elddis Crown Regent which at the time suited us great,we were newbies and wanted something cheap and simple, it was only when upgraded to bigger and newer that we noticed the superior build quality of the Bailey.
We've only had one problem with it, but that was my own fault for not wintering it properly.

We bought our peggy (pegasus 514) last year. it now 18 mths old and we love it , our dealer fixed a outside locker during the service - but we didnt even notice it, and we love our van.  We are still nervous of damaging it , but we are towing it a lot 1 weekend per month and 3 weeks per year it out an about  (last year  350 miles one trip)

We have the dinette layout and the end wash rm - because thats what we wanted in the van and then we bought the pegasus because it comes with a 10 yr warranty against water ingress the killer of vans - so my advice pick your layout first then the manufacturer - but we really do love our peggy

I must say the carcass seemed very robust (& with no seams)  and the chassis looked really solid too. A lot of them look and feel very tinny but my OH was well impressed with the Baileys in that respect.

I think they're British too ?  Point in their favour for me us as that's got to be keeping people employed in the UK.

Our Pegasus 546 has just had its first service. A few minor things have had attention but it is mostly equipment  by other manufacturers that have had problems.

Only 3 minor trim issues that really have anything to do with Bailey so we are really very pleased with the caravan. Cant really see where Bailey are going with the Pegasus Ancona layout though, a bigger bathroom yes but its lost the cosy end bedroom and the immediate lockers to cater for those occupying that end.  Our children 3 and 5 love the fact that they have their own little area ,they even have their own telly down there for the very rare rainy day!

Well i think the fact you see a lot of Bailey caravans onsite speaks volumes.  We have recently purchased a Bailey as our 3rd caravan and we love it

As one of the ones who grumbled about the Bailey 'van:

Our complaint was largely that Bailey had not completed their development of the design, when we bought the van. Hence the problems it came with have been rectified in the Peg 2, or had special fixes, most of which we had to pay for! We felt Bailey should have been a bit more supportive of those of us who had confidence in their design, only to learn that we were part of the process!

That said, we love the van and the build, and we feel that more manufacturers should be pushing the boundaries to improve the vans, not just Bailey.

I would consider Bailey generally to be well made and reliable, but more over, not liable to rot.

Strax
