Hi all, not very often i post but need some advice. yesterday i turned my water heater on,carver 2 gas only, and it did not work. iturned it off and on at wall switch. a few seconds later there was a bang and flames had set fire too our quilts which we store under the seat where water heater is. i quickly grabbed the quilts and threw them out of van in the proccess i badly burnt my hand. Im now not happy trying the heater again although i cant see any damage to the heater. So just wondering if i purchase a GE model so i can use it on electric only is it a direct replacement with my old heater. Obviously i would have to get an electrician to wire it up.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
I have only come across this once before and that was caused by incorrect installation and a fluke fault on the burner module, to say it's 'rare' then does not even come close!
My bet is and first, there is a gas leak on the gas pipe connection to the heater, other than that, your burner module is in serious need of service, second to this, that it's been incorrectly fitted. It's this second issue that has allowed the flame to enter the van, if correctly fitted it is impossible for this to happen.
I can fully understand the trauma this has caused but out of 480,000 made! and apart from an original problem in 1985, soon sorted with a recall, these heaters have not been known to cause any particular problems.
In your case a service and correctly refitting the module should make it perfectly safe.
The other issue is storing bedding so close, your meant to leave space around the heater and not let anything like bedding block the clear air flow around it.
Finally, to my knowledge there are no 'Henry' heaters in the country, if you want to go down the all electric route try www.propexheatsource.co.uk
I met someone this weekend who had a similar problem. It appears to have been caused by what is on gary's website (I hope you don't mind me adding the links gary)
In there case though it caused the polystyrene cover to catch fire. Luckly they managed to extinguish it before too much damage was done.
If you want to go all electric, I can recommend the elgena KB6. Very easy to fit, just plugs into a 13A socket, & requires 2 soft pipework connections. Only suitable for non pressurised systems though, not on board water pumps.
Yes Rodders but, it's incorrect fitting that leaves a gap for the the flame to enter inside chasing oxygen, no gap and the flame stays outside and dies.
As it happens, yesterday I fixed a 6 month old Henry with the later flue fitted, due to incorrect fitting of this latest Henry burner module, this also showed similar albeit slight damage to those shown in the pictures.
So it appears even this flue cannot stop the problem, the module has to be fitted correctly
hi all many thanks for all the advice especially gary. as soon as i get chance i will look further into problem but might be ringing gary. many thanks mick.
