Most large caravan dealers carry spare sections of poles of varying sizes. Yes you will need to thread the elastic through (they sell that too). If you don't the pole will come apart when you are taking the awning down and will get trapped in its sleeve. You will find that you can get the moulded plastic end of the pole off by gentle heating.
