Just renewed our caravan insurance, and as usual shopped around for a few quotes. All stated "Not covered when on road or attatched to car in transit".Surely this is when the caravan is most at risk of damage..Another stated "Not covered if coupling comes detatched when travelling"What happens if that should happen, who would have to pay for damages ? I have come accross a caravan that became detatched from the car and had ran accross the road and lodged itself in the ditch in the opposite side of the road just a few miles south of Fort William a couple of years back. The owner said it was his first trip out with the brand new van.Would it be that you would be covered by your car insurance ?
if you are towing your car insurance will cover any damage to another car caused by the caravan. if your caravan is not on the car then the caravan insurance will pay for any damage to the caravan.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Comprehensive car insurance only covers trailer or caravan being towed by car for third party risks, ie damage to another person or property, it does not cover damage to caravan itself.
I thought insuring the caravan means you are covered for damage to caravan in all circumstances including when towing?
I've just read Saga policy. It states the caravan is not covered for third party liabilty when being towed. ie because your car insurance covers this even if caravan becomes detached while being towed.
The caravan is at all times covered for damage, including when being towed. I'm guessing that this applies to all caravan insurance so all ok.
Think you need to look closely at the wording of the policy as the advice given above is correct, and maybe you have read the policy incorrectly. If your policy is as you say then get a different policy. If in any doubt I would raise it with your insurers. Better from the horses mouth
