After having more or less decided to go for this layout, what other vans are there than come in under 1300kgs laden other than the Bailey Ranger 500/5 and maybe the Lunar Zenith?

There's a Sprite Major 5

or an older Lunar Quaser 525, that had good sized beds as did the Zenith.

or you might have to look at older better spec vans.

thanks Mrs Anorak, the thing older higher spec vans tend to be heavier unfortunately. I forgot about the Sprite major 5 (despite having a nosey round one yesterday!). Prefer the Bailey to the Sprite as the bailey has a solid bedroom door whereas the Sprite just has a curtain.

Bertha!! She is a 1999 Abbey Cabaret: 5 berth twin dinette, 1245 MTPLM. You don't seem to see many of Bertha's cousins about tho. We have a curtain to separate off the rear double, I suspect there may have been a sliding door thingy when she was new. We use the bathroom as a cupboard (tells you everything you need to know about bathroom size!) but Bertha is ideal for us tho - me and Mr Chile at the front, kids at the back. I reckon Mrs Anorak is right - look at older better spec vans, older vans are certainly lighter.

We had a zenith 4 2005 have to say it was lovely, ok not all singing and dancing like your swifts sterlings ect, but that keeps the weight down , it had everything we needed in it.Miro was 959kg mass was 1,175kg I think or there a bouts and the zenith 5 with the double dinette dosnt weigh much more, really light and airy and well built, only changed it as we wanted something newer with a few more bells and whistles and we wanted end bathroom.

we were thinking 9k with a new mover fitted, certainly no more than £9250. The one we saw today was immaculate, not a single mark on the bodywork and had full service history.

If it has a full/up-to-date service history, you should be able to have the manufacturer's warranty transferred to you - for a fee (of course!!).  Have a good day Savanne.

I have to say, we didn't get any charge when transferring the remainder of warranty to us with our 500/5. Book simply sent off to Bailey for amendment which they duly returned.

The 500/5 has been an excellent van (they all have their quirks). We considered a Major 5 too, but I'm sure they're heavier at about 1335'ish MTPLM. If the example you've seen appears to be so good, I'd have a haggle and see what the dealers prepared to do on the price.

You may be right, Paul.  I may be confusing the warranty transfer with the weight upgrade, which we did have to pay for.  I have only had to address this question of warranty transfer once.  It was when we bought a new van which was a demo. model.  The dealers thought they would have to sell the van as second hand and there was discussion about the warranty.  In the end I think we had 'the complete warranty' from the time we purchased the van, although it was a demo. model.  It's going back a while so it's all a bit of a haze now.
