I have just retuned from a lovely weekend away with the wife to one of our favourite sites in Sussex with the caravan. We sometimes arrive late and buy some milk from the site shop, or some lovely fresh bread in the morning. Ocasionally our grandchilren come down to visit and we take them for a walk and buy them ice creams from the site shop.

On leaving site today my wife kept coughing with a dry cough and asked me to stop at the site shop before leaving to buy a cold drink. Comes out to say that the kindly warden had to give her a glass of water as the council say they are not now allowed to sell any food products without a licence!!!!!

No more convenience of milk, bread, eggs, drinks , ice creams on hot days...... Why is everywhere we turn new rules and regulations have to ruin what Is a convenience to country sites that are not the privately owned large commercial sites that have supermarkets on them?

Has anyone else experienced this so far this year, I am going to contact the CC tomorrow to see if we can petition to bring back our small site shops somehow.

I agree with you, it does seem a shame as we all have needed that extra bottle of milk, or bacon or whatever ans the site shops are a great convenience for us. However, we, as a nation have brought this upon ourselves, we have adopted the American blame culture and whilst the majority of us would have no priblem buying from a convenience shop, some would buy and heaven forbid if anything went wrong such as food poisoning etc etc they would sue the site owner. Having a licence makes sure that shops follow strict food keeping guidelines and are inspected by the local authority to make sure things are stored correctly etc. But, thats the land we live in now I'm afraid, no longer are we allowed to use our common sense and take responsibilty for ourselves, someone else is always to blame.

The CC, most of their site shops still sell bread, milk, eggs and Icecreams, although the club do say that what each site sells is entirely upto the wardens, and some sites may not sell anything at all, where others you can buy the everyday food basics, newspapers to order, sweets, cold drinks, and icecreams, and all kinds of caravanning assesories.

Indeed its the red tape brigade gone barmy again, whilst i understand the regs need to be in place for food hygiene reasons when selling 'loose' open foods and perishables, surely things like canned drinks, packets of sweets, or sealed and wrapped icecreams are a totally different matter.

It rather sounds like the same rules that have killed off the village fetes tea-party and Tramps Supper' kind of gatherings all in the name of red tape!

I agree and if we were talking of fresh meats etc I could understand some possible regulation, but we could not even buy a bottle or can of drink every single item of food or drink products even canned products has gone from their shop!

Anyone know what this 'licence' is as I can't think of what it would be. Booze and fags, yes, but basic foodstuffs? Planning permission maybe? Basic food hygiene course?

can anyone throw any light on the fact that, who gets the profit from the club site shop sales. if the wardens get the profit, then fair enough, its them thats dooing the extra work.

if the club syphons off the profit, then i dont blame the wardens for not stocking any  food items.

Is it possible for the clubs to have one licence covering all of their site shops or do they require separate licences fir each site?
