Ok done the test run only a short distance with van reloaded instead of caravan and there was a vast inproovment. on a scale 1 - 10 ild be saying 8 but i may being to fussy. hopefully this is the end of it. so a yr of swapping stuff around in caravan the problem lays elsware. hopefully with thanks to the construtive suggestions it may be safe to say im towing a safe unit.

Hi Jaysere, the only time I've ever had a consistent problem like yours was when the ball on the tow vehicle was to high.  I was pulling with a Disco, the van hitch was quite high, and when the wind got under the van it snaked at anything over 40-50.  It was awful.  I fitted a drop plate to the rear assembly on the car to drop down the ball by about 6-8 inches.  The end result was that you would not have guessed it was the same set up.

It killed the snaking dead, turned it into a really stable pull.

im wondering if that could be my problem.

adding lots of weight in the van in turn brings the van lower.

looking at caravan hitched up the whole unit looks perfectly level, ive spent many an hour studdying other rigs and notice the caravan point slightly down.

im really banging my head on the wall at min as sometimes i have plenty of stuff on van but other i will need to tow empty.

surly carrying so much weight isnt a good idea even though im still within legal weights i dont fancy dragging so much weight around full time.

my tow bar has 2 sets of holes i will see if the ball can be lowered to the bottom set

just trying to arrange that i tow mates carvan to alveston and he tows mine that should tell us or the way or the other

just checked weights and the genny is 182 kg dry weight plus few other bits so actualyy not as much as i thought.

im towing mates man in to alveston he's gonna tow mine. if he has no probs I know its my van (of whitch im sure it is now) i'll then be hading back with my van and arounf 500k of weight in van if that solves it i know how to deal with it in future.

if not its the tow bar lowering trial

once again I must thank all that helped me out on this one.

towed back from elvaston tonight with plenty of weight at rear of van.carnt beleive the difrance its made.no stabalizer van fully loaded so lots of the stuff i normally carry in van in caravan due to having no room and not one wobble. still feel the push from passing vans but thats fully expected. actually passed lorris on slow lane without any problems what so ever .

Amazing how those of us that stuck to helping on this query actually got a result . It would help if those that have a negative attitude to some peoples problems just said nothing rather than post derisory comments . Just because one persons problem is anothers excuse to mickey take , does not mean the problem should be dismissed as a joke . I sometimes think that some posters only comment to rack up their posting score !!!!!
