Follow the natural route and there are no places where you should have any problem at all, M62, M1, A64 to York, then Malton. Turn left onto the A169 through Pickering and on to Whitby.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
It's a lovely route over the moors. The steepish inclines you can see in advance so give yourself a bit of a run at then. The hill down after the Hole Of Horcum is a bit steep, as is Blue bank, but nothing too bad. Enjoy it! Where are you staying?
There is a good parking area at the Hole of Horcum (Saltersgate bank on google maps) on the A169 where you could stop off and have a cuppa whilst overlooking some spectacular scenery.
On the A64 just past the A1237 there is a large layby with a proper cafe where you can get refreshments etc.
The only thing 'tricky' as a Lanc.is 'surviving the Yorkists, seriously though your very welcome to visit and I'm sure you will enjoy our 'republic', but just make sure you return home. Jo King.

At least when they do come home they can make use of the only good thing that comes out of Yorkshire, the road into Lancashire.

The Highwayman - it's a good place for a refreshment stop and does a great all-day breakfast. I call in there every time I'm over that way.

Is this still going to be the best route on a Friday at 5pm Bank Holiday weekend or will I be better off going further up the M1 ?
Phil
sorry to say you will hit traffic but its the best route the only other way i know would add atleast 40-50 miles and on a bank hol i would not even think about it
the problems you will find are on the M62 from brighouse j24 throu to the m1 J29 mostly 50mph due to roadworks altho hitting 50 on that stretch of road is very rare at the best of times .Then again at the end of the duel carriageway on the A64 east of york always bottlenecks there
Just be aware that the ring road round York can be busy. Why it is not a dual carriageway is a mystery to all and sundry. We shall be negotiating it with the caravan tomorrow morning. Let's hope all is clear.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
