I agree with Gary about the hub nuts I have read on other forums that people have re used the nuts without having any desaterouse conncequences. Alko recommend taking the weight off the suspension to allow it to rest I wonder how many people do that I do as soon as we return home the van is jacked up and on axel stands untill the next trip
If you support the van on axe stands under the axel this allows the weight to be taken off the wheels in turn this unloads the suspension allowing the rubber in the suspension units to return to it's original state if the suspension is left under load after a time it will weaken and sag
Now I'm confused the axel bolts to the chassis at each end of the end of the axel a suspension unit is bolted this has the moving part of the suspension which is a z shaped suspension arm one end has the stub axel on which the hub assembly and brakedrum fits the other end goes into the unit and is surrounded by the rubber which supplies the suspension this is unlike car rear axel suspension that had a spring at each end of the axel which attached at one end to the axel the other end to the car.
No Greendemon 315 the weight is not on the suspension,I stand mine on axle stands over the winter period [no we dont winter caravan]. The stands go under the tubular part of the axle as close to the inner side of the chassis as possible allowing the suspension arms to hang which relieves the rubber internals.
Hard lines Brian, I dare say if one has a new caravan you have to have it serviced yearly or lose the guarantee which is a needless extra expense, Like most I expect you will only use your caravan for holidays so won't exactly be doing huge mileages in the year, brakes are virtually service free except to get the dust out very occasionally, I have a 2009 model and have had very little trouble, one just needs to check if everything is working okay, have good tyres fitted and that's about it, I do my own servicing which is a simple matter, I take off the hubs every two to three years to clean out the dust, getting the hub nuts off can be a bother without the proper tools, I do it with an electric wrench cost me under £40.00 and will spin off the big nuts in seconds with no effort, I aso use new Alko nuts each time and buy them on the Internet at just over £4.00 each.
