I seem to remember seeing some sort of bike rack that stands the bikes upright. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Can it be used to keep bikes in van when travelling. Usually we attached a rack to the car but it is so fiddly and annoying!
Yes there was something a few years ago that,I think, bolted through the floor of the van and was easily removed when you got to your site. I used to put the childrens bikes in the van wrapped in sheets and two on the car cycle carrier but I had a Sorento then with a 100-125kg towball load.
I still feel that caravans don't have sufficient payload to put bikes in the van. For me the roof of the car is the best option. Having a car carrier means that you can take the bikes elsewhere if the site is on a main road.
I used to put the kids small bikes in and used to strap them to the front sofa frame so didn't move and rub but now put all bikes on roof of car. much easier
A piece of wood slotted into front dinette (where the table goes to make up the double bed),with brackets and front spindle fitted to accept the front forks with the wheel removed

Ive just made one of these with copper tubing.
Looks exacly the same now its all sprayed black.
Will be using it for the first time at the weekend.
We generally pack light anyway, so payload is fine for a bike or two (they're very lightweight alloy/carbon bikes). A friend of mine knocked up a good loose fit frame which is similar to the device posted recently, which Mike+Judi have illustrated; direct link here. This works really well for us.
Edit: sorry, hadn't spotted that Mike+Judi had included web address in their post too
