Why not use a mains/battery unit? Other than a car CD/radio, I can't recall seeing another sort of 12v one? Caravans are fitted with a car radio type ( - least all the ones I have had have been). As they are rare (non-existant??) I guess they would be expensive.
If you use one with batteries, it's probably worth buying rechargeable batteries and a charger. Replacing batteries can be an expensive business.
