Over the last few weeks, I've been driving OH mad with worrying about how much weight we will be towing in two weeks down to the med.

So, spent a bit of time on saturday weighing stuff. Wow. Dorema awning and alu poles - 30kg. However, remove sides as not being used and extra poles - 19kg. Removed folding table as have alu one for awning canopy - 8kg. Removable carpets removed and another 8kg gone. Saved the best till last - removable locker between front seats. Take it out as we only sleep inside and live outside. 21kg. Just like that, 48kg shed meaning gas bottle, water and waste barrels and leisure battery are now towed "for free"

Lifted a huge weight as all in van now except clothes and food and we've still got 80kg to play with. Time well spent and 10 days to go to a weight worry free tow !

Our 2010 van is 1395kg MPTLM so we know we are close to the limit of 1400kg max tow. The car has no issue's whatsoever with the weight - tows up and down anything i've come across with no concerns but we're going via clermont ferrand and millau so know that 50kg saved will make a huge difference. however, i don't think we will go above our car's kerb of 1410kg - I'm aiming for 1350kg once loaded

Before we knew better we towed a Conway trailer tent up over the Grimsel pass in Switzerland - with a Citroen Dyanne (602cc).  Those were the days.
