If its with kids in mind for joining a club I do not think it makes much difference. Its the camp sites you want to check on first before visiting ie use the Camp Site Search on this forum. I am in the CCC and have found some sites have play areas and some don't.
Re the CC I am becoming really disheartened that I can never book for a week because all the weekends have been booked for months in advance.
The CCC pricing seems much more family friendly. See here copied from their web site

Families are an integral part of the Club. Where possible we provide facilities to help our family campers.
Children under six camp free on Club Sites year round
Children between six and 17 camp free in low season, when accompanied by an adult
Adult fees are only payable when the child reaches 18. Members of Camping Club Youth can get further discounts.
Club members who travel in a group of up to two adults and four children under the age of 18 (five children if there’s only one adult) and camping on one pitch, can benefit from a Special Family Deal.
If you are booking online, choose the deal by clicking on the relevant box. When you arrive, the Holiday Site Manager will work out the best price for your family
Hope this helps

Also with the clubs you can go to meets/rallies which are really cheap although usually just in a basic field but with lots of room for the kids to play. I'm with the C&CC and some of their meets have organised activities for the children (and adults) and the best bit is you don't usually have to book - just go along.
Caravan Club (CC) has about 220 of it's own sites with about half open to members only and over 2500Cl's ( small 5 five van independant sites of variable standard licensed by the club for members only ) , the standard of it's sites is consistently high over the whole network, it provides every service that a caravanner could need and all the services are comparable with the best of service that you can find anywhere. When you arrive at a club site you book in and pay your fees, no deposits are taken so the whole fee is paid at this time, you are then given information about the site and are told to go go and have a look at the pitches available ( all empty pitches are available ) choose one, set up and then let the wardens know where you have gone. Should you decide for whtever reason that you need to leave before the date that youhave paid till, you can inform the wardens that you are leaving and will receive a refund of all fees for the days that you have paid for but will not be staying for.
Camping and Caravanning Club (CCC) has about 110 sites of it's own a handful(6 at the last count ) of which are members only and a network of about 1000 CS's ( like CL's ), the standard of the sites over the whole network is of a more variable standard with the best sites comparing favourably with the CC sites. It also provides a full range of high quality services for the caravanner that are just as good as those provided by the CC. When you arrive at a club site you book in and pay the remainder of your fees ( a deposit will be taken when you book which if you cancel more than 7 days in advance you getback, within 7 days you lose), the warden will decide where you are to pitch and will escort you to it and ensure that you have pitched precisely as he requires. Should you need to leave for any reason the fees that you have paid will be forfeit ( though in some circumstances by special request to head office giving circumstances and doctors notes be placed on account for you to use in the rest of the year )
I have been a member of the CC for 18 years and have never regretted it, I have been a member of the CCC on two occasion in the last four years and have on both occasions resigned it just did not suit me. I know of a lot of people who like and use the CCC so I would suggest that it is worthwhile joining both clubs and seeing which one suits your purpose best

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Many of us would disagree with you on this, I have never come across the problem other than at Bank Holidays. Then again I am fairly flexible about where I go.

Many of us
Do you represent a group ? I am speaking of personal experience. We do not have the same choice of CC sites in Scotland as England enjoys. I cannot book a weeks holiday on a C Club site of my choice because all the weekends are booked. Sorry I'm repeating myself.....I'm sooo happy you can get to the sites you want to visit but I can't.

AS I said I am fairly flexible about where I go. However, I sympathise with you about the lack of sites in Scotland the sites up there are all in superb locations and are generally filled for the vast majority of the time. They get filled by the hoards of English people seeking places that actually look beautiful rather than simply have a reputation for beauty.

I too have had problems booking the CC sites,They all seem to get booked up fairly quickly. I suppose its ok if you book well in advance, but with work commitments etc this was not an option for me . Some of the better sites seem to get booked up really early. I decided to not renew my CC membership I have not been a member of the C & Canping club so i can't comment on this. But i would definately say the i had problems booking with the CC

Never had a problem getting on any C.C site's , were away at short notice this week and only made the bookings at the last moment and were going to Freshwater East C.C which is VERY popular in South Wales , C.C website said FULL called the site direct and result !!! Got booked on no problem .
Try calling the site you want direct , don't rely on the website .
neil and lena So what you are saying is don't rely on the CC website. Whats the benefit of CC if their website gives you false information .This may be the problem i had when trying to book many sites through the CC website always finding they were full, really what you are saying is cut the CC out and go direct with the caravan site. If this is the case i would say that the CC are failing

Now that we agree on principles can I point out that out of 18 sites in Scotland that there are only 4 that are fully booked this next weekend and in all probability if you wanted a pitch to go tomorrow for a complete week and rang those 4 sites you will find that the wardens will find a pitch for you. They always have a small number of pitches available simply to cope with any emergencies which crop up.

As a member of both clubs & have an 9 year old daughter I would say that she finds it easier to make friends on Camping & Caravanning Club sites.
Off season we do find that Caravan Club sites appear to have few kids, even ones with playparks. In the summer season in Devon or Norfolk we found there were plenty of kids for our daughter to play with.
Family deals from the Camping & Caravanning Club should help you with the cost too.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
