I purchased a 50 Watt- 10 amp solar panel from Amazon £188 complete with regulator, my wife has some medical equipment that has to be kept charged nothing to heavy, but we ran the tv-satelite, lights water pump, plus we have motor mover so needs battery pretty full charge. We tried it out for a week it worked brilliantly, we over used every thing to give it a good test, by 11pm the battery was down by a third but by 10am fully charged.I have it now on the roof of the caravan which is parked on the drive, if I want to watch tv have quiet beer I go & watch it in their, plus it doesnt cost anything only the beer!
hi . i travelled to gambia in 2001 must say was quite forward for africa compared to some places . we normallytravel 6 months every year li,ke you no ehu. just solar and driving . do have a deisel genny just to work an inverter welder in emergencies . but water i lemonade bottles etc in windscreen for washind and showering. we are lazy now use 240v washing machines etc. spent quite a bit of time in senna gambia and down the coast a paradise beach . did lammin lodge and up the river with the crocs. got involved a bit with the sewage or lack of a system in serrakunda. that and the tip outside the town. but can say good experiance . never got to grips with mandingo though. good job they speak english . mind alot do speak arabic. i do prefer the arabic countries more though. they are moving forward much faster.
i use the solar and the inverter to power things like fridge and deepfreeze at home in the summer ,park next to house and run a lead in. saves a shilling. and keeps it ll ticking along. keep your eyes open for my mini artic when on your travels , once seen never forgotten. cheers alan.
vwalan, know all those places. The Muslim schools werebetter set up in myhumble opinion.Went to Baku for a football semi final match and Serrakunda for their wrestling .A sort of Cornish wrestling with dust! The Serrakunda market is not for the faint hearted). We did use a bushbus to deep into the interior, after a several hours the driver seemed to coast to the edge of the dust track, got out and changed the batt, the used one being dead and no alternator fitted or working.Evidance of why you don't drive at night there as many can't use their lights due to similar "faults".We went to the far south of the country away from all the tourists and lived amongst the fishing villagers. We were able to drive,towing,17 miles along the beach, dodging the occasional cow herd.Wouldn't reccomend it now though as the bad chaps from neighbouring countries skirmishes have taken to hiding out there and causing problems.Couldn't have done any of it without the set up I had in place.Cheers

it all still happens a german mate manfred with a magirus left his truck there last xmas flew home to germany for xmas took a car back to sell in gambia . we saw him in maroc . i thought he took a chance leaving his truck it was in a friends families compound. think many from uk should go and have a look around . we dropped pens etc in at a school only to be offered skunk by the teacher . showed us where it grew . didnt believe we dont use it. he thouvght every white man wanted dope . we took the truck right into southern senegal and back . keep think of doing it again . but after being in maroc during the riots early this year think its time to give them all a miss for a few years. think by themn maroc will be infront of uk in progress . the truck and car factories there are incredible. all a bit messed up now no tunisia libya eygpt route . some still getting to india . but it does seem to get worse not better. even the paris dakar moved a few years ago to south america. bet you enjoyed the fishing villages specially when the boats come in . dried fish or drying fish around for days . a memory never forgotten. worth every dalhasie.
keep the wheels turning have anothder beer and dream.
