it stinks Well actually after running off a few basins it's not that strong smelling now - but does whiff of rotten eggs . Not nice. I'm also getting little flakes of flappy greyish stuff coming out again from the taps too. Not a lot - hardly any but neverthless I don't want little flakes of YUCK in my tea etc !
I flushed through the system thoroughly with Milton Fluid about 6 weeks ago & it was fine - no bits no nasty smell.
Recently we discovered the on board battery charger/transformer was bu**ered though so it's been sitting & no water getting run through (but still connected up to the the aquaroll) for a wee while till Mr La-la sussed what the prob was (took a while as some of the wiring was wrong before) then fitted a new charger thingy....
Now everything is working fine but I have eggy smelling slighty flaky water ! Why ??? And should I use some other stuff - would it be better / longer lasting than the Milton ?
I've used Milton in my Aquaroll for years, just needs several thorough rinsing and flashings to get rid of the smell / taste so I doubt that is the issue here, but could be wrong.
Won't rot your water tank either. (Noticed yesterday that our water heater has a label on it that says DO NOT clean with products containing chlorine!)
Will get rid of limescale too. We use it, its good.
Ours is a Carver Rapide. I have used Aqua Chem on a glassfibre boat fresh water tank and it was good - but the Carver label says no chlorine so its the Elsan stuff for us.

Thanks for that, thot maybe i have been doing something wrong or,got a bum steer from a dealership, seems they are different tanks..
Hi La-la, The grey bits may have been flushed to taps and trapped there in the tap heads, Some taps have the spray type heads, and they can trap bits. Take tap heads off, clean it, Re flush your system with any of the water purifiers, then again with fresh water, then re-fit tap heads, I used pureaclean in aqua roll, filled water system, left for hour, then flushed though rest of water, then re flush with fresh water, I do same with the waste pipes, block off outlets, I use the purifier and hot water, fill till water reaches shower tray, put in plug, do the same with kitchen sink, then fill the toilet wash hand basin(highest point), Normally do both systems at same time, run water through till waste pipes full, stand for hour then drain, hope this has been of help.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
My parents cleaned out their system with Milton for the first time and they can't get rid of the smell or taste in their drinks, they've flushed it through numerous times but it wont budge & they've had to resort to buying bottled water to use for drinks.

Esther I know what you're on about but this is not the smell of Milton - ie bleachy sort of smell.
I used Milton Fluid in our last caravan several times & it did the job fine. Though there certainly was a faint whiff of chlorine in the water that I was flushing through, once I'd finished the job (I always did run through about an aquaroll more than the reccommended amount) that completely went, & the water had no smell at all.
At any rate this isn't the same smell - not like chorine but like rotten eggs

What type of tank is in your caravan jeff ?
Al & Mel - sorry I'm not quite underrstanding this - ok the boat is glassfibre - but what was the freshwater tank actually made of ? Surely the actual tank in the boat wasn't also glassfibre ?

It was a glassfibre boat with a bonded in glassfibre freshwater tank.
Just been doing some thinking ..... I remember when asking advice about how much Milton to use last time that someone warned me that Milton & Aquachem would damage Carver tanks.
I was alarmed about that but as I recall unless you're leaving a product containing chlorine in the tank for a prolonged period (or using too stron a solution) it's actually perfectly safe. There was a debate about this on the thread, and after speaking to my own local dealer I was happy that Milton wouldn't damage the Carver tank if used correctly. I should think the same would apply with Jeff's Aquachem.
However maybe the Elsan will be effective for longer.. ie the yucky flaky bits & bad smell will stay away for longer if Elsan is used ... Is there any reason to suppose that's so do you think ?
Seems i have the same one as Al/mel and i can see the point of not putting bleach in it but, they add chlorine to bleach. or,is it the bleach ? .Like i said been useing aqu chem for years and also pureaclean i forgot about..
