I was in Michaelwood services southbound this afternoon & the new layout has certainly cost a lot of parking spaces. The new forecourt is in the services end of the lorry park & the old forecourt has been demolished to make way for a new coach park.

As you enter there's a sign warning drivers they have ANPR cameras there & I was shocked at the small area allocated for caravans to park. Does anyone know if they allow caravans to park in the HGV parking spaces or are they restricting them to this small area??

Hi BB same Northbound called in two weeks ago caravan parking full so pulled into lorry parking as another van had parked in lorry bays, after taking  break toilet etc needed fuel but could not get to filling station (cars) from lorry parking, went back out the way i came in two way, always used Michael wood North &South not any more its pants still waiting to see if i get a fine in post

If they do start trying to charge drivers for parking in alternative areas of the services they should be reported to the H&SE, drivers need to be able to pull off the motorway for rest & refreshment & I thought service areas had to provide facilities for the same. I didn't walk over from the lorry park to count the caravan spaces on the southbound but I'm sure it wouldn't be more than 20 at most. It'll be interesting to see what transpires as the season goes on.
