We're off on Saturday. I was just wondering if people go up the road off the A1039 and then turn right to the site. There is a long hill but I'm assuming a low gear and taking it easy should be OK? Their caravan route seems to take you through a lot of small villages. Which I understand if the more direct route is too dangerous.
hi when we went we , approached it the same way, up the hill, low gear, right onto the site, maybe we went at wrong time of year (feb), not in no hurry to go back, please god you have a better time than us, mud mud glorious mud was the order of the day on our visit

we love this place been 3 times but only in our tent before we got the van we are wanting to go there in our van but that hill puts us off, what set up have you got? and please let me know how you did with the hill. others tell me its not a problem but knowing my luck i would get stuck behind a combine harvester and have to stop half way up lol. Have a great time we always do there the kids love it we are off today too wahoo
We went to this site easter 2010. We approached up the big hill and had no problem towing the van up, but have a fairly powerful 4x4 car. As realbusdriver says it was very muddy, and they were chucking gravel down trying to make a 'road' as campers were arriving. Some of the pitches at the far end near the pods are very steep, and if you have a long van you will need ramps and blocks. Not going back.

on our visit we went as a party of 4, 2 cars 2 tin tents, my own set up is a small ,lightweight 2 berth avondale towed by a 1.5 dci (diesel) megane, which managed to get up the hill in 3rd gear,( in all honesty i did get a bit of a run at it & no combine harvesters to get stuck behind)
my mate has a newer ,slightly larger & heavier, 2 berth tin tent towed by a 2.5 (petrol), x type jag , and much to his chargrin his motor struggled to pull his 'van up the hill, he had to crawl up in 2nd gear.
i'm not very technically minded but my mukka, said he wasn't surprised by the hill climbing performance of our respective cars , he put it down to the fact the my little 1'5 oil burner has a good deal of torque at the lower end
