Am I just a grumpy old man and expecting too much? Just returned from 3 nights at the CC site at Rowntree Park in York. My first trip there, didn't expect a great deal of space as a City centre site but have never found so many club rules broken in such a short time.
No ball games on site - children playing foootball
Children on bikes and scooters exceeding spped limits and ignoring one oay system, asking for an accident.
To both sides we had people sitting outside listening to (different) music, turned up nice and loud.
Two couples opposite sat outside drinking and talking loudly until 1:30 am.
On second night van pitched at right angles to us started taking down awning and preparing to leave around 8pm, still packing up at 11:30 pm. Up and noisy hitching at just after 5 am and left beore 6 am.
Replacements on aboue pitch had TV in their awning, no peace sitting outside on lovely evenings!
Children up, playing loudly and running around from 7:30 am this morning.
Is this what we should expect in school holidays and put up with it?

That's terrible. I would certainly have complained. That's why we avoid school holidays and use a lot of CLs. Jim
It was also the reason for our first venture into the "Adults only" sites.
When we are in France, we can't help but notice that the continental children seem generally better behaved. And we have noticed the odd ad. for "adults only" sites in France. Anything to do with Brits abroad?

Not something the UK can be proud of, is it?
Bertie.
Its because too many Brit parents send their kids off to play around the site by themselves. Its like we have lost the desire to actually play with our own kids and spend proper time with them.
Im sorry but as the dad of 2 young and loud daughters aged 6 and 3 i just dont get it. Me and the missus have tried to explain to our daughters that when we're away on no matter what site, that they need to just be aware of other campers, caravanners around us, but its easier said than done. Kids will be kids. I know that from experience cos i used to be one once.
We tend to use the family friendly sites and stay away from those that have reviews or descriptions about being tranquil and peaceful. Im sure when the time comes for me and the missus to have totally peaceful breaks we'd probably choose adult sites only.
Dont mean to sound sarcastic or confrontational. Just expressing my opinion thats all
Just noticed your last post as i typed this. Agree with you about the adults, cos they have no excuse.
It has to be said that even adults can be a pain but, on 'adults only' sites, any rowdiness would probably be quickly dealt with. Although not ourselves directly affected, I would hate to see a substantial move to 'adults only' by their owners, as some of these sites could be in great areas for kids. I would not like to think that tomorrow's kids were denied the pleasures our children enjoyed, simply because of a thoughtless minority.
So let's see some commonsense from those parents who are being too lax. With campsite demand growing, the clubs can't meet all the demands, and the private sites are essential. Don't let the choice for families be dwinded simply because of a lack of good old fashioned good behaviour.
As two old fuddy duddies I must say we quite like the sound of children playing and adults laughing the world is in quite a sorry state to start with, so why can't people enjoy themselves and to be quite honest our grandchildren wouldn't know the right way or the wrong way to ride bikes round a site as long as nobody isn't hurting anyone or anything what the hell
I'm surprised the Rowntree Park site allowed children to ignore the cycling rules, as a few years ago a child riding unsupervised around the site was hit and killed by a driver. Even though the car was not exceeding the site speed limit the child just cycled across his path and there was nothing he could do.

The problem is that it is hurting someone......2 children killed in the last couple of years or so.
I feel for the parents, but also for the drivers that they rode their bikes into.
We use mainly CC sites when in UK, and on most of them there are children on bikes riding around fast and with absolutely no regard for other drivers, pedestrians, or the one way system.
Where a one way system is in operation, it is well marked. If a child is too young to observe this then, IMHO, they should not be riding on the site roads.
Ball games near vans I would not tolerate, or excessive noise late at night. I would either speak to the offenders, or take it up with the warden. Dealing with stuff like this is part of their job.
I certainly would not expect that on a club site and I have never ever found it. If it happened to me I would be quite vociferous. Everything is usually very quiet well before 11 pm.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
We had the same problem as tony c at wyatts covert a couple of weeks ago, wont be using club sites again during school hols, with parents shouting at their kids to go and play some where else at 11pm, I did notice that any mention about unruly children in the site book, meant that the page was defaced or torn out which I suppose is 21st a centuary parental response.

My kids are grown up and flown the nest but i still love the sound of children playing.
there will always be some of these problems ,even with the adults, on ANY site during the school holidays so why single out the cc sites.
if you need total peace and quiet then its best to choose a cl site (small amount of vans less chance of being desturbed)
