has anybody towed a caravan in britany (france) using a van? and had problems? eg getting on sites ok as some places in uk can be funny for obvious reasons. im considering using the van rather than the jeep so we can carry more weight. can anybody help?
Could be a problem. Travelling People are as big a problem there as here, hence the "no twin axles" rule on some sites. If you can visit the site office without the 'van and explain what you have for an outfit, they may let you on if they are happy.
Good luck. You could prebook on the net or phone and explain. Will test your French!
There's a no twin axle rule in some sites - really ? Crumbs, we have a twin axle - never thought there might be a prob with that
Is this because all` travellers' have them then ? Seems very odd logic to me anyway as surely they know not all people with twin axles are `travellers' !
Yes - very common rule. It gives them authority to turn away Pikeys but genuine tourists are usually ok. Also some sites have small pitches difficult to access and long (twin) vans cant get around.
thanks for the info, since my last post iv emailed a couple of sites south brittany and put the question to them and all are fine with it however i used to have a twin axle and i did have problems but that was in spain. (Discover) the dealers where iv just purchased the caravan from did mention id have trouble certainly in france getting on sites with a twin axle so if i were yourself send them a email to explain your situation.

Madness ! Our twin axle isn't that long - approx 17 1/2 ft is all, & my OH can get it in tighter spaces than your average person seems to manage with a 12 ft van !!!

I would not have thought there would be a problem, we have just got back from the Ardeche and stayed on a ver good Castel site. My wife and I commented on how many of he larger vans on he site on Dutch and German plates were being pulled by vans. With the odd exception these were the ones with windows fitted in the side , like day vans!
