I'm looking into getting a caravan, but I'm a bit out of my depth to be honest. Is £4500 a reasonable price for a Avondale Dart 556 6 berth Caravan 2003?
It would really be stretching my budget.

That's seems about right for this time of year, my sister bought a 2004 Avondale argent 4 berth for the same amount , so I think that's about right , does it come with any extras?

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Someones asked if he'd sell it on a "buy it now" and he said for offers of 4500, at the moment I'm trying desperately to get someone to check it our for me cause I don't know anything about caravans, and sadly time is counting down on it.

I think it may have damp, the bubbles they mention usually indicate a damp problem, and if you are unable to repair it yourself could be costly, also would you be towing this ? As it's been sited for a long while so new tyre's would be benificial and a service too.
I think it might have a few issues, and I think you could be opening a can of worms, but if you can find a local mobile caravan engineer/service person to check it out prior to buying and it comes back ok then it's all good, but I think you should keep a look out for soothing else, nice looking van though :)
Also do you know Avondale arnt trading anymore and sometimes replacement parts can or could be tricky to find.
Good luck
Donna :)

I passed my test after they changed things so I'd need to do a seperate test, Thats why I was thinking of something on a seasonal pitch, so I'll be paying someone to actually move whatever one i buy.

Hmmm I think personally I would leave it, I really think it's damp, I know it's easy to let your heart rule, but I think It could end up costing you more in the long run , keep looking there are some good vans out there :)

Hi fin7, A word of caution. According to the description and reason for bubbles, and the repair method, don’t think I would be too worried if it went, If you cant view van before end of auction, I personally would let it go, as I have had a van with small so called condensation bubbles, that turned out to be very much more, though it was very much older than that one. There will be other vans out there, don’t be in such a rush that you forget all the advice given in previous posts. Good luck.

If in Doubt Check it Out.
LOL at the conservatory furniture in the awning and why do people put pics of their van on when its full of clutter? Not exactly a selling point imo, looks a bit of a mess and you cant see what you're buying for the clutter.

I agree with savanne, I like to see good clear pics , not the family entertaining in it lol
Walk away there are others in better condition promise :)

I agree with the others - walk away now.
Another one will be along soon
(incidentally when you say you passed your test too late - do you mean you are limited with the towing weight? If so you can still tow within certain limits. I didn't pass my test until 2000 and am still able to tow our caravan as it's under 3500kg combined. I think there are some other rules as well, but when we looked into it, it wasn't as off putting as we thought!)

Hi and thanks for the advice, I think we'll walk away from it. I didn't really want to buy from a dealer but I'm starting to think that would be the safer option.
There was another one I was watching but its too far away from me. I think £5000 is about as far as I could go, maybe stretch a bit more if need be.
I'm looking to get at 6 berth, I don't think my car would cope with that, then again neither could I! I've got visions of the front wheels being in the air, lol. Also with a seasonal pitch I woulnt have the problem of finding somewhere at home to store it
