Looking at purchasing a new caravan and both Lunar & Elddis are interesting me, can I please have your thoughts on these 2 manufacturers build quality, back up service along with any special features.
I am looking at a 4 Berth / Fixed Bed / End Washroom as my preferred layout middle to top of range.
We love our Lunar, no real big problems so far and its now 6 yrs old!
The Elddis is a smart van, i have no experiance of them as an owner, but we do rather like the Elddis Explore 5 berth for its compact length and light weight with a very versatile layout. Im not a fan of fixed bed models, unless you can tow a very large 19ft bodylength plus, you tend to get a much smaller lounge area and a cramped bathroom on some models, not to mention one of the couple sleeping in the fixed bed could face having their toes hanging out of the end of the bed due to the corner being chopped off if anything taller than 5ft 4ish!
We much prefare the option to buy a caravan with a rear dinette which can then be left made up as a double with the door closed on it during the day, and still have a full length full width bed for both occupants. this layout is also practical for families with small children, they can go to bed at night in the rear beds whilst the parents stay up and relax for a while, a fixed rear bed often has to be passed by in some way en-route to the bathroom, thus risking disturbing them.

Zipster, I have a Delta RS which is probably fairly close to what you are looking for. No problems with it and suits me fine for long trips away. I would suggest contacting a couple of dealers for prices and also check out their after sales service to make sure they are not just a box shifter.

cant fault our Lunar we previously always bought new Bailey's but the last van we had back in 2009 had floor delamination within 1 year so had it repaired and got shot pronto .
will replace our current lexon in 2012 for a new Lunar Clubman sb
We have a delta 640 which we took to this south of France this year (almost 2000 miles). No problems what so ever. Before we bought it we put a post on hear and someone posted that they had travelled through Europe during the winter with heavy snow at one point and they had no problems with their Lunar either. We absolutely love ours.
We have had 2 Explorer group caravans and 2 Lunars I would buy another Lunar but not another Eldiss the build quality and the materials used on the Lunar are of a much better standard.
I've not had an Elddis so can't really comment but have had a 2005 lunar the build quality was excellent, never had any issues with fixtures and fittings, it was great.

we've just looked at a 2012 Elddis magnum 405 which is based on the Xplore but has lots of added extras. Its a dealer special exclusive to Pearman Briggs. We were very impressed but have no experience of Elddis but it looked just as good as our Bailey Ranger GT60.
I agree completly with Julia about fixed beds. Our current van has one, yes its comfy but my feet hang off the edge, the loo is at the side so I get woken up when its used overnight but for us the reason we're going to change to a double dinette layout is the lack of somewhere to sit when the front seats are made up into a bed.

You just bought that Bailey only 2 months ago after looking for ages and your changing already ?
I know but unfortunately it dosent work for us with the kids. We have been looking round dealers today and have been offered more for the van than we paid. Also the new powertouch we had fitted can be transferred onto new van foc too. If it was just the two of us the Bailey would be perfect but as it is with the front double made us theres no where for us to sit. Dont want to rely on an awning for extra space and we want to be able to use the van all year round.

So what are thinking of buying or still undecided .
have seen a dealer special Elddis Magnum 405. Based on the xplore but loaded with extras. Its still light and is shorter too so will fit on the drive better too. Not going to rush into anything, will probably go to the NEC next month to look at more ranges.

Good luck with whatever you choose and let's hope you get your dream van next time round
The Elddis magnum is based on the Avante and not the Xplore as I have the magnum 462
Make sure the top lockers have two catch on then as mine came with one no each locker
