Ok, I'm bored enough to bite.

2.4kW of 'cooling power', but only 4A draw at 240v. Where does the other 1.5kw come from then?

From the air in the caravan; remember its a "heat pump". It uses electrical energy, 0.96 kw in this case, to move 2.4 kws of heat energy.

we love our air con unit which was fitted as part of the spec at the factory, we prefer the UK for caravanning but use it quite a bit, really recommend though they do cost a fair bit. We don't notice any difference towing from our previous van, the small weight difference on the roof isn't noticeable. go ahead and get one, you'll love it

Sorry if I appear out of step but,do you really need aircon in the UK,
I've always managed with a cheapo desktop fan when we were lucky enough to need cooling down

I've had the Dometic B2200 for the last 4 years on my Fleetwood. I have just today bought another one for the replacement van.

The one thing that you do need to ask your dealer/manufacturer, is whether the roof needs any extra strengthening. Not all vans are simply remove vent and fit aircon. I have asked 3 Buccaneer dealers today if my roof is ok. They aren't consistent with their  answers. Two said yes, one said no.  I'll phone Buccaneer tomorrow...

With regards to are they worth it. Yes without a doubt if you tour abroad like we do. The temperature difference can be 13 degrees.

Kev.

Hi Kev. I just bought a Fleetwood heritage 530-3. Did your 'van come with a pre-prepped roof for the aircon?
John
PS, can anyone answer this question please? Thanks

Many people think that air con only cools down building/rooms, but don't forget it can also be used to heat rooms up.

I would have thought that many vans have the option of aircon in this modern age, the roof mounted units are very much an afterthought at best and a lash up at worst imho.

No reason why the aircon unit can't be embeded into the van or fitted underneath even.

When the time comes for me to get a van, it will definatley have to have aircon, I notice the Dometic built in units cost around £800 so probably only add around £1k to the cost of a new van at most.
