just returned from a 2 week break in norfolk and while there we noticed how many caravanners dont use the shower or kitchen sink provided in their van. anyone know why this happens ? am i missing something by using my own very adequate bathroom?

Yes! You are missing a cold damp windy walk to the shower block!

We are with you on this Paul, perhaps the folk you have noticed haven't got very adequate facilities in their 'vans.

Most people like a more powerful , longer shower than `vans usually provide and do not like splashing water around inside the `van I believe .

Many folks including myself cant be bothered humphing water back and forward just to use your own caravan shower when site showers are warm and clean and as for using your cassette toilet for everything including No.2s
Urghh !! No thanks when there's perfectly good toilets on site .
We only use C.C sites which have excellent Toilet / shower facilities and if your paying for them use them

for me,not enough room for a comfortable shower.takes just as long to clean and dry the shower after.i have paid for the use of the shower block.should think the shower in the caravan will empty the barrel which will need filling immediately afterwards.

We use all our facilities, bought this van because of the large end bathroom and shower, it's truly fantastic all sealed and contained, and is roomy and excellent flow of water , guaranteed always hot, would of never considered using the shower in my last van though far to small and the loo was virtually in the shower tray, way to cramped.we wash up in our van unless it's a big lot of pans ect, we go to a lot of CL sites so having a van with good facilities was important.
If we are on a CC site that has great facilities hubby uses their showers, I still don't as I like to get showered and changed in the comfort of my own van, and if it's raining hard not going to get wet twice , nothing I like more than having a hot shower in my van, then popping on my dressing gown all cosy.

I dont see the point of spending 1000s on a van and not using the things in it..why not buy a tent instead ? Is it just for show ? Why buy one with a shower ? why buy one with a kitchen ? Why not buy one of these and stick a bed in it ? Fred did..

I never use the shower in my van simply because I know how they are built, when new and nicely sealed they are fine but all of a sudden the sealant stops sealing without your knowledge and you get the caravan equivalent of cancer. All for the sake of using the site facilities. However I have joined a club which has rallies and sometimes do not have facilities so there is only so long you can get away with a wash down before you need a shower eeekkk.

I think that if everyone used own facilities the water consumption on sites would probably halve. Thus saving a valuable commodity. Why does anyone need to stand under a shower any longer than it takes to wash oneself? It cannot be long before sites add a water charge to the cost of a site, it is not after all, a free supply!

we have a FC with toilet though no shower.  Always use the kitchen sink and usually the bathroom sink as why not!  the water is hot and there ready to use so can't see the point of not using. the sink is a decent size so no lugging the plates across a field.   The toilet is used at night for wees and by day for wees in the rain or if the site has a dodgy toilet or, in my husband's case, just because he can't be bothered to walk across to toilet block lol.   Never used for number 2 though would do if a site had bad toilets but not been anywhere like that yet.  Prefer not to have the smell really (toilet is not quite as enclosed as a caravan) and not keen on the emptying.

Hi Jeff my comment was not at all the right timing your comment was not there when I sent mine. (Fred and big C)
I moved from tent - trailer tent to van. Or I would have been thrown off site for snoring. Well so my wife said but I cant hear it. I really do not use the shower I tend to use it as a drying room.

I also don't see the point of having the facilities if you don't use them, but after saying that we do impose some (what we consider to be) reasonable restrictions on use.  The toilet and sinks we use extensively and fully, with the exception of washing up.  Washing up can be messy in the van, so we use a washing up stand in the awning, where we have more room to spread out.

We tend only to use the shower when we have water hook up - we try for water hook up sites whenever we can.  It saves a lot of bother carrying water, and makes using the caravan shower really much more practical, IMHO.  We don't find having a shower particularly difficult in the van, but we do take up the carpet in the washroom and put down a large towel on the floor just outside the shower to step out onto when you come out.  We keep a towel expressly for this purpose - it catches all the excess water.

Always use the site facilities. Would have happily bought a caravan without a shower if there was one made. Had to settle for the standard gin-palace on wheels.

Use site shower block as caravan shower room/toilet is only small, the pressure is not great. So use the site shower block unless we are away on a temp site with own sanitation essential.

Horses for courses, we are all different etc etc.
