I will be making my double bed up and will be sleeping on it for a few months. When making the bed up I turn the cushion over so the bed is flat and then put a mattress topper on before making the bed.
My question is will the slats in the bed ruin the cushions if left like this for a long time and is there anything I can do to stop the slats making an impression on the cushions. I was thinking of putting a layer between slats and cushions but was unsure as to circulation.
Hope I have explained my problem correctly.

This may leave dents in your knee roll, but I personally can't see it being a major issue, if you're worried, lift them up every so often and give them a good knead! Them replace them on opposite sides so they don't quite align with the original slats, should even the wear. I expect many people leave the bed made though so I wouldn't worry about it!
If possible do a bit of reversing of order of cushions every couple of weeks, put the knee rolls to the outer caravan walls, so they dont take as much body weight.
Then use the flater back cushions to fill over the centre slats, that way you could even turn them over to right side up, without getting the knee rolls anywhere within the main bed area, they would be kept under your pillow and your foot end, which unless you are extra tall in a 7ft+ wide caravan, never gets used at bedtime.

Continuing with Jeff's idea - this is a serious suggestion too - you could use an old rug or piece of carpet directly on top of the slats and underneath the cushions?
long term beware of condensation in your bed. Covering the slats may well give you that through lack of air flow. The suggestion of lifting is a good one. Condensation did used to be a problem when you had to use a table top where slats now are. I used to have tp put newspaper on the table top and it used to get quite damp!!!! Through condensation that is!!!!

I had thought of the idea of putting something in between the slat and cushions but was worried about condensation as I will be doing this from now through the winter.
I will use Julia's idea which is what I am doing now. I am only 9 st and 4 foot 2 so I should be ok.

We used to turn the cushions around rather than over, so the knee rolls are against the sides of the caravan, then put the back rests in the centre. It's only the knee rolls that make the cushions uncomfortable, with them turned around so they are under your pillow and feet, they are fine. this also means you don't have them in contact with the slats, although we didn't have slats in the old caravan, just solid boards. We know have a fixed bed and it's much more easier. Inevitably one of us used to fall asleep early with the old caravan and we would end up using it as two single beds for the night.
