Hi all, I am hoping to pick some brains here as I am looking for a small and lightweight caravan about 12' long and kg s (approx) unladen weight but there is such a vast variety of makes and models its proving a long job to pick the small ones out on eBay and other second hand sales sites and often people don't put something as basic as size in their ads. I would be grateful for suggestions as to makes/model that may meet my requirements. Thanks in anticipation

Hi, we're thinking of going down the small caravan route when our bongo dies (would prefer another campervan but a decent van costs too much and we can't afford it). The two caravans we are aiming at is Eriba or Tab. Both come in very small, lightweight models.

We have a little ABI Sprinter (1996). About 13ft long.  We love it!  We manage to get 2 adults and 2 young children in.  It's small, but perfectly formed!  Well worth considering.  We found it advertised in our local paper, but they do pop up on ebay too.  Ours is a 4 berth, but there is also a 5 berth model.

thanks for the replies, yes I have looked at the really small ones but they are just a bit too small, I have seen and Elddis wisp 12' which is nice but they seem fairly rare. I'll add ABI sprinter to my list as well

thanks all

The Avondale Mayfly is a good little van but then I am biased having the next size up which is the Sandmartin.

How much do you want to spend? If you just want an ebay cheapie then condition is more important than make. Its pointless anybody recommending makes. Any UK built 'conventional' caravan of a certain age will be much of a muchness regarding build quailty.

Plenty about, late 80s early 90s, after that less small caravans were sold as cars got more powerful. Mine cost me less than £500 including chassis service & new tyres. If you buy a cheap 'van you need to budget for that.

We used to have a 1992 Coachman Mini Genius which had an unladen weight of 870 kgs. allowing a payload of 150 kgs. which then took the maximum laden weight to just above 1000 kgs. and the body length just 11ft. long. The awning size was 770 cms. which made it easy to fit and little pegging out. Although it was a nice little van we preferred the end washroom and that's why we now have the Amara 450/2. I think that Coachman manufactured the Mini Genius model up to about 1996 and although they are getting more rare they are still available if you search the internet and should be able to buy for less than £1500.

It's all about the Elddis Wisp 300 / 2 If you are looking for a modern--ish looking well specced compact caravan. I have a 1993 Wisp 300 which I paid £950 in June and it's brilliant. It has all the appliances and comforts of a bigger caravan but can be towed by a corsa. The 350/2 is slightly bigger, so that is another option (and less rare than the 300) and if you want to see some pictures of a 300/2 take a look at my facebook group ;)
